Where to download sounds for music production?
« on: May 26, 2009, 10:15:42 »
Hello,

I'm learning how to make music using FL studio...but what I'm finding the hardest is finding sounds and instruments to use for my songs. Do I have to have a real instrument (eg, for a violin do I need to record my own violin sounds)?

Are there any website where you can download instrument sounds for free?
I download Nifflas' sound pack btw.
Thanks!

<Gaeel> Wait are we really having this conversation?
<Dataflashsabot> I think we might be a figment of Gaeel's twisted imagination...

You might also want soundfonts. There are enough of them out there if you Google "violin soundfonts" or whatever instrument you want.

Have fun. :3

Does this count?

...he's using FL Studio, and those require you to have purchased Adobe Audition.

Also, you may want to try some VSTis. You can get them here: http://www.kvraudio.com

You'd need to have Adobe Audition to use them legally, I would think. It's good to check the licenses of the stuff you want to use in your music.

What you're looking for is "audio samples"(individual recorded samples) or "loops" (longer recorded beats or riffs). You can find them all over the web, always try google first  ;)
You could also try different VST Plugins, which are essentially those many different instruments you see in FL. There's a lot out on the web.
These look promising:

http://www.kvraudio.com/

Or you could record your own samples like a pro. But that takes the hardware and much more time.
Either way, it's gonna take some research. Quality free samples are quite hard to find. That's why I'd recommend investing in a program like Propellerhead's Reason, if you have the money.

Good luck, welcome to the wide and intimidating world of music making   :^^:
