[Small][Challenge][Hard][KS+] Sub Fissura
« on: October 24, 2024, 22:08:25 »
Under the Crack is a charming level that followed Juni on a journey to find her umbrella and return home. Not a creature or tricky jump in sight, but exploring the bite-sized world that dessgeega created in 2008 was a pleasure.

15 years later, Juni returns to the place she called home with her family in tow. Little Junebug, filled with her mom's adventurous spirit, finds an old umbrella in storage. She decides to open it...

These "covers" are baby steps on my way to creating a level from scratch and allow me to focus on just a few aspects of level making at a time.

Here, my focus was on creating interesting/challenging sequences and populating the world with creatures that were slightly edited to give them a more primal feel. The environment itself has slightly changed too. In keeping with dessgeega's tips in 'Knytt Syndromes', I tried to avoid using unpredictable creatures in any sequences that require precision. This was created for those who enjoy challenges for their own sake (and a few parts can be quite hard) so be forewarned!

That peaceful cave from the original level got a bit dangerous, no wonder Juni moved away when she had little daughter. :)

This is really cute little level. I really liked the animation of Junebug and the custom creatures. I really have nothing to complain about in this level, please make more stuff like this.

All credit to Lucinda & Lit Knob for the beautiful animation of Junebug.

Funnily enough, Hostile Landscape was the main inspiration for this level  :^^: The monochrome/minimal visuals of dessgeega's original reminded me of yours and I wondered what would happen if aspects of the two were smooshed together.

Despite the danger, I wanted to retain the charm of original with little moments. The music and depiction of the creatures also was meant to keep down the tension and give the feeling that these aren't sentient baddies out to hurt Junebug, but rather simple creatures doing their creature things and Junebug has to coexist as a brief visitor in their world.

I'm glad you liked it!

This level has wonderful art direction, but the challenges are too hard. Maybe you could make an easy version?
PS: "Cover" levels are more than welcome

Difficulty options have been added in the newest version! If any screens still seem too hard in comparison to the rest just let me know.
