Click on the Niffchat button, type your username, and then select with or without smilies. The first time you do this, a security popup with come up, asking for verification. You should be able to click Allow. Then that's it, you should connect. You'll need to explain what doesn't work about that last part. Or you can use another chat client like Chatzilla, mIRC, XChat2, or MirandaIM. Just make them connect to irc.esper.net and then type '/join #niffchat'.

...which you could have found out by reading the [faq], btw. and that you could have found via the [search]. and the [help] is also something I'm just randomly suggest using. 9_9

If you utterly cannot get it to work:

CHAT WITH MIBBIT

It'll be slower (HTTP proxy) but it will definitely work. (You may need to log in to Mibbit, but you probably won't)
Try to get Java or better yet, a proper client working though. Much better.
