[Medium][Maze][Hard] Liquid soap
« on: March 23, 2021, 18:24:01 »
Here is my newest level. It contains 5 custom tilesets that looks all the same, 72 custom objects that are actually just two with different colours, one very silly secret that is not worthy of looking for and no real story. It was made for vanilla KS.

The goal of this level is to get all four keys located in areas of the same colour and then get out. There are no dead ends, but you will have to backtrack a bit.

Thanks for the level! I enjoyed the aesthetics quite a bit. This level managed to PERFECTLY walk the line between Normal/Hard where it's hard enough that one has to put thought into it, but easy enough that there's no real trouble with any challenges.

I'm with pfrangip on this. I feel the difficulty does tail the line between Normal and Hard (much like how Petals II tails the line between Hard and Very Hard imo). Good level! I only have a couple of complaints, though:
1. I didn't realize there were save points at first since the background behind them uses a color that doesn't contrast that well with the point itself. I feel using a darker color would have worked better in terms of visibility.
2. The holo powerup makes some of the challenges later on a bit easier than they should be. There were a few points where I could easily just sneak past half-a-dozen-or-so enemies that would usually kill me if I didn't have holo on, and it made some of the challenges feel a bit lopsided, imo. Not sure if that was on purpose, but at least the level wasn't too hard!

Either way, it's still a good level. Really dig the unique aesthetic style. Can't wait to see what you make next!

Really neat level! Like others said the aesthetic was awesome. I also really liked the music and COs. Difficulty felt just right. Didn't find the secret but I didn't actually look for it. I'll play through again some time and find it. :shifty:

Thank you all

@SC: That tileset didn't work as intended with darker background, so I tried to mark the savepoints with those little trianges. In hindsight I should have used KS+ and replace white savepoint with black. This would also allow me to recolour some critters. Hologram was added relatively late in level building, double jump was supposed to be there instead.

@Purple Ink: It's not worthy looking for anyway. Either you bumble into it by accident or not.

That was an unique experience. I absolutely loved the visuals, how perfectly the gradient tiles were made. And with the calm music the level just made my day complete.

@Polana: The secret IS worth looking for.

@: I'm glad you are mentioning those gradients, because they took way too much time to build. Like half of the time I spent working on level.
That music comes from here. I highly reccomend this, they have free music for any genre.

Edit: And I forgot to mention I found the music page via SC's fanpage. Have a  :hiddenstar:!

I suddenly decided I don't want to be the one missing out on this new trend of rediscovering hidden gems from the last years X)

I watched DonDoli play this level on stream years ago and the aesthetics really caught my attention, but it wasn't until now that I decided to try it out for myself. Besides its unique look&feel and the cute creature COs, this was at its core a very enjoyable challenge/maze level, with the maze aspect working really well here. The layout is intrincate enough that you need to pay some attention and explore adequately, but not so much that you completely lose track of where to go and the stuff you have discovered (or at least, not for long).

The level design is also quite polished. I did run into a couple instances of wallswimming due to ramp tiles placed right on the screen borders (e.g. if you jump/climb to the bottom-right part of x994y1001 from the screen below), but I didn't encounter any planet-destroying bugs here. Nicely done!
Some KS levels by me:
