[Small] [Misc] [Easy/Lunatic] Depression Quest
« on: January 25, 2021, 02:46:27 »

For best experience, go in with no knowledge of the level whatsoever. Play until you're bored or the music in the last area stops.

v1.6 fixes some disgusting content that the other versions missed.

Thanks egomassive! I managed to get through semi-legitimately (played with KS+ and saved manually in a bunch of places). I missed all the bonus material somehow, but was able to see it on a second playthrough. A simultaneously profound and silly self-reflective level that hits close to home on a number of matters. canteven, I'm happy to talk about this kind of thing if you ever feel like it, or not if you don't!

I thought this level was really weird at first. I didn't get it because I didn't find most of the actual story for it on my first playthrough, though.

The supplementary material has nothing to do with the actual level - for the most part, it's an environmental level that ends on a curveball.

Definitely used some, ahem, extra save points towards the end. I found the slower pace fitting and the ending satisfyingly anticlimactic for a level titled Depression Quest. The neat rain-outside-window and waterfall-around-corner details were refreshing to see. There is some bravery that goes into creating a profound or intimate story, so a lot of respect goes to those who put their feelings into their projects, intended to be found or not. Good job on this level ncrecc.

Good stuff! Played this blind and enjoyed how pacing and difficulty set a narrative-like structure, just like the tunes and art styles! Also, I need to remember the level design trick with 4 background layers under a passable wall object for later.

Should mention this got an update (1.5) that improves a bit of cutscene art and explains a really badly communicated secret (which seemed to touch on themes of abuse but was meant differently); see original post.

Weird level. I liked it.

v1.5 restores various things removed from v1.4 and retouches some cutscene art I wasn't happy with, but still leaves out one of the more disturbing secrets (and adds an explanation as to what that was all about).
So... where can a version with the disturbing secret be found?
