In the development showcase forum the forum description says:
Quote
Do you have something you made? Games, music, programs, etc... Post them here. (Previews are not allowed, WIP's are)

So I'm just going to ask, what are "WIPs"? And whats the diff between that and a Preview?

Ok thanks!  :D

A WIP, is a Work In Progress. I'm not sure what makes it any different from a preview tough, since that is exactly what it is.

I think it means that you actually have to post something of substance, like at least a public beta, rather than just basic information on the project.

I dunno. There are lots of previews in the showcase.
good bye

The difference is easy.

A preview is only a screenshot about the product. A Wip is like a beta version. It contains a download to an unfinished product.

Basically, development showcase gives you a link to something tangable. For that reason a preview is not tangable enough and not allowed.

I posted an extension to this topic here.

The terminology is flawed, in my opinion, and what I have to say is rather long, and veering, so I figure it should all be settled in a clean topic :)

Since it seems to be not understood what I see as a WIP, I've changed the description. Although it probably is still vague at this point, its all I can do without making the description unnecessary big.

Basically I mean the following:

When you post something, you must actually have something to showcase. That means, you need to present a link as if its a full product, except that it doesn't have to be a full product because you're still working on.

In essence, there has to be something to do, rather than just something to look at and read. Is that correct?

Not necessarelly. It must be part or the whole from what you'll get in the end.

If you are writing a story, and you want to showcase that, then atleast some of the story must be readable. If you're making a movie, then at least some of the movie must be watchable. If you're making a game, then atleast some of the game must be playable. If you're making music, then atleast some of the music must be playable.

Does that make it easier to understand?
