Lovecraft. "The Outsider" Knytt level is the story of a miserable individual who does not remember anything about her past, or about any person she might have known. While being scared, the protagonist feels very lonely, so she decides to leave her house and set off on a journey in the hope to find a cure for the emptiness in her heart. She will discover a horrible truth.
Graphics, Sounds and DesignThe level makes use of a couple nice custom gradients, mixed with Nifflas tilesets and music. The intro and ending scenes are nicely crafted. Although far from perfect, with some technical issues, the result holds itself together well.
Score: 8/10Contents, Vibe and EnjoyabilityThe main character expresses her emotions during the journey, which is told through the intro and ending scenes and textboxes placed on the path. The run powerup is intentionally not given in order to let the players savour every bit of the story.
Score: 7.5/10

Juni has heard this story many times, so she thinks it's true, and one day she sets off on a journey to find said mountain.
Graphics, Sounds and DesignThe level features one custom tileset and some insteresing custom music pieces, mixed with classic elements. The tiles and especially the background elements are sometimes placed in a kind of haphazard way and some areas look a bit flat. There are also some technical issues scattered around (examples: void screen in x1029y996, wallswim between x990y1005 and x990y1004). Apart from these issues, the level is fine.
Score:
8/10Contents, Vibe and EnjoyabilityIt's a big level with a lot of good content if you don't mind the small imperfections and the questionable placement of the background tiles. The custom music is really nice. Overall it's a big enjoyable level with some interesting music.
You need all the four keys to finish the level but you can find them all normally with some good exploration skills.
Ending:
the final music and scene are appropriate, but I was personally slightly disappointed when I realised the level would not reveal anything of what could have been Juni's wish. You don't throw yourself down a cliff without a reason and I felt like one part of the story was missing. But I understand one can disagree and feel like it was perfectly ok to leave the ending open like this.

However, he has bad news: nearly all of the townfolks have been captured and taken to a castle by the king's guards. Once again she will have to save the day, and to do so, she will have to speak to a ghost, pass his three trials and gain the "sight of the dead". With this, she will gain access to the castle and hopefully solve the mystery of her townfolks' capture and save them from the evil king's prisons

She tries to go back home but she can't, so she decides to go inside and find an exit.
Graphics, Sounds and DesignClassic tilesets and music. With a twist! Every screen has a map in the upper right corner, so you can navigate very comfortably. Another special feature of this level is that inside the castle there are special areas where you can "change the view", which means you will navigate horizontally on the map (grey tiles), or vertically (red tiles). All this is very unique. Also everything seems to work perfectly fine with no technical issues.

Timecraft R07Author (s): BleRelease date: December 2008 or earlierReviewed Version: 1.1Declared Categories: [Challange]; [Hard]; [Medium]Screens Count: 101Level Download: http://knyttlevels.com/levels/Ble%20-%20Timecraft%201.1.knytt.binStoryA knytt is born with the special power to temporarily stop the time. One day she is out for a stroll and gets kidnapped by the pirates with some other knytts. They are all taken to an island with the purpose to serve as slaves.
Once upon arrival, the Knytt uses her special power, but she discovers that she can only stop the time for the pirates and the knytts, while the creatures living on the island continue to move normally. You are not given any objective but it's implied that you must escape.
Graphics, Sounds and DesignDespite the very useless, absurd and English grammar ignoring story, the level is solid and plays very smoothly. It uses Paul "Ripen" Naumowicz tilesets and classic music and everything works very well.
Score:
8.5/10Contents, Vibe and EnjoyabilityIt's a 100 screens level with a lot of tricky jumping. You are given upgrades one by one, and each upgrade puts you against new jump challanges. The savepoints are abundant so it's not that frustrating, but the required jumps need to be pixel perfect in more than one screen, and still pretty hard in the others. In some cases it's not easy to understand if a jump is just impossible and you have to take a different route, or you have to make the jump. But this is part of the fun.
Ending:
After a lot of jumping and searching for the correct route, you finally reach the opposite side of the island, where you find
absolutely nothing and the main character suicides, because she realises there is no escape and, in a Jim Morrison-stile, she thinks it's better to die than to live a life in slavery. But... despite you may think you have turned the world upside down to get here, you have actually missed -all- the four keys hidden in this level, and the keyholes too. How is this possible? The level is only 100 screens big and you would be sure to have checked every one of them. But you haven't. There are indeed four keys and a place with the four keyholes in this level. It is just very very hard to find them. The five locations do not come with any hint, you just have to backtrack (with all the upgrades and using the sky it's a lot easier)and start looking. It's a real secret-seeking challange. Once you get all the four keys and find the keyholes, you unlock the alternate ending:
if you thought the story was already incredibly absurd, think again. The hero finds a tunnel underground. After several days of crawling, she finds out that the other exit leads exactly to her house. She goes straight to sleep in her bed, totally not caring about her friends being still held captive on the island as slaves. End of the story.
Score:
8/10 The story is really bad, though.
Secrets and Bonus MaterialAs discussed above, there is a very difficult to achieve alternate ending. The secret ending is very difficult to reach, in a level that is already difficult because of the pixel perfect jumps required to get the normal (bad)ending. Some people would have liked hints. Even if the level is not huge, very few people will have the patience and time to legitimately look for the secrets in every single corner.

- The hero's special power is never used. As the level stands, the special power only serves as an excuse to avoid having to make the pirates and knytts move and interact with each other and the hero.
- The English grammar in the story custscenes is annoying even for a non-native English speaker

This is because I did not have the final version at hand. Instead I had the 2.5 version, which was not complete and this has misled my judgement. I have uploaded the final version on the Level Archive for the best coverage. You can also find the level on Egomassive's website:
http://levels.egomassive.com/?p=119StoryJuni
is a shy girl with a low self-esteem, who lives alone on a hilltop. While wishing for the other knytt's company, every time she tries to speak to them, she ends up saying something stupid. In the hope of conquering other knytt's aknowledgement and attention and build some self-confidence, she decides to attend the annual Great Race of her village.
During the race
she will meet a new "friend" and will have the opportunity to save him, risking to lose the race, or to keep going, which would lead to her new acquaitance's "death" instead. This choice leads to the two possible endings.
Graphics, Sounds and DesignThe Level uses (a lot of)classic tilesets, music and ambience, with a couple custom objects and some custom music. It is well crafted and plays smoothly. The cutscenes, added in the final version, complete the frame and are well made and colourful.
There is a nice replica of WaDF "Ljus" area in the level, and also a seabed zoo.

Worth MentioningThis section mentions levels that are generally complete, playable, but tend to be shallow in design and/or suffer from other important issues. These levels are generallly mediocre, but not bad enough to go straight in the "To be Avoided" cathegory. A level can also end up in this category if it looks promising, but it is unfinished. You can generally just avoid these levels unless you really must play -every- KS level that was made. I will not review these levels. Instead I will simply briefly describe them. If I were to give them a score, in most cases it would be around *1/2 stars / Mediocre.
Bligglenuber - Trapped In A Harsh World Deadly switches, malfunctioning teleports, unforgiving lasers, nonsensical invisible threats or right paths, intended (or maybe not?) wallswims and other weird design elements are abundant. No music was added.
baroncid and oldgil – Sohe and the rrokked An interesting project that feels like playing Saira. Sadly the project was abandoned and the level remains unfinished.
Bass – The Golden PyramydSome effort, nice (uncredited)songs. Not complete trash, but at the end you will have the "What the hell have I just played" feeling. The songs are Dragon Roost Island, Sweet Lullaby and Valis the Fantom Soldier level 1.
BloxMaster – Level 5Without a reason, Juni wakes up in a portal-esque testing environment and has to beat five challanges. Difficulty 3/5
BloxMaster – Upwards SkyA plain, but enjoyable Sky Flower-inspired level. Difficulty 3/5
BloxMaster – Content Load SuccessIt would have been a good level, but it is unfinished. The absence of the eye powerup, in fact, traps you halfway, making the it impossible cross the win line legitimately. Also no music was added

To be AvoidedI have tried these levels and I have wasted my time. Don't do the same mistake.
These levels are generally very shallow, uninteresting and/or unfinished, badly designed or just trash.
