[Challenge/Small/Environmental/Puzzle] Laserslinger
« on: October 26, 2015, 23:42:33 »
The year is 2070. Juni is working as a detective at the local police department of the neon soaked metropolis she currently resides in. Gunshots and sirens in the night. The streets are being terrorized by violence and illegal substances.
Can you help clean up the streets?
It's 3:30 AM.
The phone rings.

I love this level. It's beautiful and evocative of a kind of neon-cyberpunk coolness that it was clearly designed to have. It's just a really great short-story level.

This was very neat. The overall colour scheme was particularly beautiful. I think use of unauthorised music in levels is discouraged here, but I won't tell if you don't.

i was kind of really uncomfortable playing juni as a cop who eviscerated people by jumping on them super mario style? like it's for sure a trope of cyberpunk dystopias that police are even less big on procedure than they are now, but i was kind of shocked by how abruptly people turned into smears of blood upon contact.

Well this was different. I was a little hesitant about the level based on the description. It's something way out there from the normal KS fare. I was surprised by the violence in the level. Actually having Juni "attack" someone almost felt like it was wrong. By the time I got used to it it was already over. Nevertheless, I'm glad I played this level! The colours and visuals were really great and I loved the music; definitely gave it that cyber-punk/futuristic feel. I especially loved the COs everywhere. Really cool level for sure. It's too short though. Felt more like the intro to a larger level.

Very cool level! Great colors! I really liked the futuristic feel. The police-station especially had a nice design.

Thank you for the feedback, people!
The futuristic blade runner feel was what I was going for, I'm glad the environment and the CO's have been met with positivity, I put alot of time into it and getting the right feel of the world, even though the level did turn out quite short. I've got some ideas for a possible sequel, but nothing that's certain as of yet.

The more action based take on my level might not be for everyone, I get that, and I like a nice calm environmental or a typical puzzle/adventure level as much as the next knytt player.
However, this was more of a test to create something new, and to take knytt stories in a different kind of direction, with the "violence" and the ability to fight back, so to speak :).

Very nice level indeed.

I ran into a small problem though.

Great atmosphere and story! The purple backgrounds and the neon lights mesh together very well. My only complain would be the lack of actual lasers in a level with a title like that  :P2
Some KS levels by me:

As a fan of Drugs and Wires, I must say that I absolutely LOVE the neonpunk/cyberpunk thing you've got going on here. I also like that this level isn't just about the character exploring as per usual-- but about the character being a cyberneon detective in a world filled with CYBERCRIMINALS(tm)!

Great level. I'd love to see more levels based on this story. :D

The graphic style took some getting used to, but eventually I came to like it, and the concept is of course great. Reminded me a little bit of Farik's classic levels. I wish you made a sequel - or simply expanded this level - with all kinds of stories and stuff.

Also yeah, like Vegetal Gibber said - some lasers would fit nicely!
