[Playground/Environmental] [Small] [Stupid] Tomatoes
« on: August 09, 2015, 15:17:02 »
So, um... my memories of the event are still fuzzy, but I seem to have made this tiny level... thing... for the current "make a KS level in 2 hours" type event at Glorious Trainwrecks:

[ Link ]

[ Mirror (Knyttlevels.com) ]

Explore the land of Tomatonia and discover its terrible secrets! Or just bounce around on the tomatoes while admiring their freshness. It's up to you!

It's got a starting position, layer 3 tiles, bank #10 objects and all those nifty features we all know and love.

Spoiler: Version 2.0 features (click to show/hide)

I looked everywhere for those damn potato chips, but when I finally found them and got the secret ending, boy was it worth it!!  XD

But anyways:

1) I liked the tileset.
2) I liked the humor.
3) I like tomoatoes.
4) I've seen shorter levels with less of a point.
5) I hope you use the tomato tileset in a future level. Or turn this one into a full-length feature! You might be onto something here with these potato chips!

Thanks for your feedback :) I've been wanting to make one of these very silly levels for a while, so I thought this was a good chance to give it a shot. Making and testing the custom tileset from scratch took a BIG chunk of the limited time I had, which didn't leave me much for the rest, so I opted to go for the "very small but fairly detailed" approach.

I definitely want to turn this little thing into something more. I'm not sure if I should turn it into a Challenge level and give it a goal, or keep it as a playground while expanding the map (more dialogue and areas to explore) and adding secrets. Either way, and by popular demand, the potato chips will be back with a vengeance :P

I've posted a BIG update to this level, which adds a lot of content (basically, everything I wanted to put in the original level but couldn't due to the time limit of the event, plus some extras I thought of today). The map has been extended more than 4x its original size (not really an accomplishment, since the original was so very tiny)

If you liked the original level, you'll probably enjoy this extended version a lot more. On the other hand, if that wasn't the case... well, I'm not sure this is going to change your mind, but I think it's worth a try :P

EDIT: I posted this a while back, but I think the forum ate my post.
But thank you for the memento! I may use it as a secret in one of my levels.  :D

That was awesome!

  • Love your dialogue. I'm a big fan of random humor. You should write one of those "quotable comedies," maybe starring Zach Galifianakis. Alternatively, get fake celebrity twitter feed.
  • I enjoyed the new screens, especially learning the secret origin of the juice.
  • But yes, the new secret ending, boy was it worth it!!
  • I especially loved the part where you gave pfrangip one million dollars, that was truly extraordinary.

Can't blame the forum for getting hungry at the sight of those fresh, delicious tomatoes :P2

I'm glad you liked the new version! Gotta give your audience what they want, y'know (even if it costs me one million dollars  X)) I'll probably make another of these quirky, dumb little levels soon. This one was pretty fun to create.

Oh, and you can use any of the custom graphics included in this level. The tileset is a bit clunky to use though, because it was made pretty much "on the fly" while I was building the screens, without any prior planning whatsoever.

Another thumbs up to the tileset.

It feels like we could have an additional outcome involving the chips.

Thanks!

I did use the chips for a special ending in version 2, but there are so many possibilities indeed...

I really loved this level. Even more so when it was updated. I laughed, I cried, I felt alive. It was a great little level.

I've gotta ask about that last spoiler there. More plans to expand the level?

I saw the entrance to the cave, but for some reason Juni could not enter it. I reinstalled the level, and now everything is fine.
Thank you for this good level. I like tomatoes :-)
