I recently remembered I have some unfinished levels that I do not intend to finish. I could perhaps use the ideas for their own standalone games, but I won't be using Knytt Stories any time soon. So I decided to release them here, as there is some original content there and it could be of use to someone.
Other Knytts (requires KS+) - Download - 3 custom characters;
- 2 original tilesets;
- A medium sized map already built, but very unfinished;
- Cool intro from the original Knytt, but you follow Otto instead.
This was a big idea I had a while ago, too big really.
Here is the original post regarding the idea:
I'm making a new level, or at least trying to. I'm still not sure if this is going to be used for the epic level competition or if it will just be a small level, but here is what I want to do:
I will use egomassive's mod to make this level, so I can change Juni's sprite. The story starts with some sort of conflict in the Knytt world, maybe that conflict isn't revealed at first, and there is a gathering of a bunch of knytts in an underground area. These knytts decide that this is a very important matter for them to resolve by themselves, so the chief of this underground village sends messengers to the most important knytt villages (there should be around 4 or 5 of these). The messenger arrives at one of the villages, speaks to the chief/king/whatever, and we now control that leader, and must travel to the village seen in the first cutscene. We do this for all of the village leaders, and when they are all gathered, they can discuss the problem, and fixing it might even be part of the level.
There would be no power-ups in the level at all, each leader would have its own combination of powers, depending on where they live. For instance, the mountain village leader would probably be the only one with the climbing ability.
The way I imagined it, there would be 5 areas, one village in each area. One village in the center, and the other 4 would be the "corners" of the map. The center village would be underground but not too deep, then I would have 2 villages on the surface and other 2 deep underground. For the surface ones I figured something like one mountain village and one desert village. The underground ones are a bit tricky though, probably one with lava although that doesn't feel like it makes a lot of sense.
Right now I'm just trying to make the sprites, which has proven to be quite difficult for me, mostly i'm just replacing Juni's head but her hair kinda gets in the way, and also she's wearing a dress so some times replacing the head won't do.
Waddaya think?
RGB (requires KS+) - Download
- 1 Custom tileset;
- 1 Custom character (monochrome Juni);
- A tiny map built for testing the tileset.
The idea here was to start with a monochrome game, and collect 3 different color power-ups: Red, Green, and Blue. But I only made the monochrome tileset (which looks alright). You could collect the colors in any order, and that would dictate where you could go next. As you collected the colors, these would be added to the world's color pallet.
I'm sure there are a few other old levels I dropped, but I'm having trouble finding them right now. As soon as I find them, I will add them to this post.
