Looking for help with an idea of mine
« on: September 27, 2014, 15:22:04 »
I am writing a book.... yes I know, weird way to start a topic.

But anyway, I talked a bit to one of my favourite level designers, and he has told me to start a topic. And so I have. I have been plagued for 1 and a half years now, by dreams of turning a substantial part of my book, into a KS level, but I am absolutely useless when it comes to building levels.

I have an idea in mind, and it never turns out quite the way I wanted. I would very much like some help with level design and layout, Custom Objects, maybe even custom tilesets. If anyone is interested, please reply, and then we can talk about the story and about how you'd be able or willing to help.

As this is my first-ever post, I ask that you be patient with me, as I am not accustomed to this website.

I would really appreciate any input given.

Oh, and one more thing, I intend to Egomassive's KS+ mod, which you can get here: http://egomassive.com/ks/

More information would be helpful. What is the story about? What do you want the level to be like? You my find this second question is tricky to answer. You can give us examples of levels that are similar to what you are wanting.

General Advice: When converting one form of entertainment into another, something has to change. Think of how movies based on books will often cut away most of the story and alter what's left to fit the movie format. Where readers expect to read their way through to the end, gamers expect to play their way through. Lengthy stretches of reading will not engage the player. You need action, interaction, puzzle solving, exploration, or some other game mechanic to propel the player through. So, the very important issue you need to resolve is how to turn your book into a game without losing what's important about the book.
