Time Fixes Everything (KS+) [Challenge/Medium/Normal]
« on: August 18, 2014, 05:00:30 »
Requires egomassive's KS+ mod!

Well. I guess this is another one for the pile of unfinished Knytt Stories levels. But I'll never work on this any further, so this is its final state.
Many, many years ago, I started making a level called "Kera". I then gave up on that level and released it unfinished, to work on another similar but improved and larger level, "Time Fixes Everything". Unfortunately, history repeats itself and no one gives a damn, so just download the unfinished but still quite enjoyable level here:

Download Time Fixes Everything
(Version with some fixes by egomassive)

Original version uploaded by me:

It is very unfinished story-wise, but I believe the included areas are really good and some of you will surely like it! I lost a few hours today to make it less broken and include some developer commentary in the parts that weren't finished, and made it so the game can actually end, even if the ending doesn't make sense.

There will likely be void screens (a huge one that I just remembered but don't want to fix), sound issues, birds that fly backwards (I think this was due to an early problem with KS+ that was fixed later), things that make your computer explode in a bif fiery ball visible from space. But there's a lot of good stuff too so it will probably be worth your time, give it a shot!

Thanks to egomassive for the massively awesome mod and to limanjs16 for the cool music.

Note: I tried this level on an older version of KS+ and it didn't work properly. It's working much better on the newest version of KS+!

Hopefully this will reduce confusion for others.

This is very good. The intro, the custom objects, the visual mixture, it's all awesome and well done :D

Things I don't like..
Challenges.
while they are quite easy and no trouble to pass I think it's the nature of ks that makes me rather just appreciate a level like this without having challenges. Just it feels like a environmental.
Dialogue.
Since they don't add to the story or anything they are there as flavor. I personally don't appreciate that, breaks the immersion.

I also found some bugs while I was lost. I guess it doesn't matter if you're done with it.

Wow, so far it was great! The animations are top notch for KS. Story wise it stops at about the same place as Kera. Did you plan out the rest of the story/level? I'd like to say, "Let me finish making this level," but I have my own projects to work on.

Some of the most important points in the story are told in the "developer comment" dialogues. The story in the game starts in the middle, this is it from the beginning (sorry about the text wall):
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

Having this finished by you would be amazing, Ego, you'd make it a lot better than I ever could. But even if you weren't so busy you'd probably have a really bad time working through the mess I left in the level.
I'd love to see this finished in some way, or this content being used in any complete level. If anyone wants to use any of the stuff in the level I'm totally cool with it.

I missed so much! The necklace is West of town, not East. No wonder I couldn't find it.

Oh woops. I had to retype that part when releasing this version so I must have not been paying attention, sorry.

It's very cool how much this differs from the first version of this I played. The KS+ additions (like changing the colours of Juni and other creatures) have a fantastic effect. Previously, I found the use of flat fields of colour somewhat garish, but it's beautiful now. Of course, I think I recall a certain brown tileset responsible for most of my feelings on this matter, and that seems to have been obliterated. Your elaborate animated cutscenes are also very impressive. The music contributed by lilmanjs and Sage Taylor is really nice too, though I do miss that glitched-up version of Gymnopédie No.1.

I'm a little sad it will not be completed, but unfinished levels have their place too, and this is one hell of an unfinished level... the pathos and potential of what could have been artificially raises their quality in my eyes. At least, I assume that's why I like Homeworld, Station Sputzna, and grapes so much.

I couldn't help myself. I fixed several errors. The birds fly forwards. Voids in the sewer are gone (allowing players to reach the second ending.) A SGE in the sewer is now a NEGE. And, you are now given correct directions to the lost item.

Time Fixes Everything (fixed but unfinished) 22.7 MB

Ooh, thanks! I'm using that as the download link in the thread now.
Sorry about not fixing errors like that in my own levels, it's just hard to find motivation for stuff like this since I feel so disappointed about dropping development.
Not sure what graphical errors you're talking about though...
Also, you don't really get the second ending, you just get the object that would have let you reach that ending.

I'm not sure where it was exactly, but it looked like this.

Such potential. I enjoyed the primary colors, and the idea for the story may just be better than any actual story you could have made. I enjoyed the animated cows, the grapes, the beginning animation, the ending... all good stuff.

Not sure what you're talking about here.

Not sure if this is a genuine wink-wink-nudge-nudge situation or if you genuinely forgot about the grapes.
