Odd One Out, redux

Ice hockey, curling, figure skating, speed skating.

In all of them it is desirous to slide on the ice, except in curling where you want the stone to slide on the ice while you yourself remain stable.

Figure skating, the others are based on racing with goals, short/long tracks or something like that.

Ice hockey, because it's the only contact sport.

Uh, let's see if I can start this thing up again:
Rose, dandelion, daffodil, tulip.

The rose, as any of the others would not smell as sweet if their names were changed (or so I'm told).

Dandelion because its the only one that uses wind to spread its seeds, which is something that most children find really fascinating. (the sight at least)

The dandelion, daffodil, and tulip are all flowers, while Rose is an episode of Doctor Who.

Roses have thorns.

Oh yes.

Church, castle, fortress, palace.

Church as it is the only one that never had any kind of touchable(physical?) protection/defense capabilities.

Church has spiritual defence, LPChip!

A church is not a building generally intended for human habitation, unlike the others. It is also the only one with a solely religious purpose.

Palace, because churches, castles, and especially fortresses can be thought of as plain or even austere, but the word "palace" always implies a certain level of extravagance.
