Feedback on a new motion-based MIDI controller (iPhone/iPod touch)

http://nifflas.lpchip.nl appears to have a lot of expert musicians engaging with it so I wanted to ask if I could get some feedback on our music technology project. The device incorporates an iPhone or iPod touch and has a variety of uses, but perhaps the use most relevant to you is wireless motion control of DAW software like Ableton or Traktor. Here is a quick 1 minute demo we did with Ableton:

Clearly, we are trying to mix the best of both worlds with physical touch control (great for precisely timing a trigger) and motion control (great for controlling and combining multiple parameters at the same time). Would something like this be useful to you? Is there another direction you can see this is going in? We would be very grateful if you have any feedback you could provide, and if you want more background info you can also visit www.auug.com Thanks for your time! Alan

I can see a select group of people wanting this.

A person who wants to perform on stage without losing their mobility will benefit from this, but given what you can do with this, it does seem a bit limited. With only 8 triggers on the hand, it may cause a limited set of options. Then again, the video doesn't show if its possible to trigger a new action if you hold 2 or more buttons at the same time.

This type of dj'ing does not give you much to actually play a melody, even if pentatonic, but that may be still possible on 2 octaves for how high your hand is, or perhaps the horizontal position. Panning should not be something the artist wants to use anyway, because with loops its much better to do that at design time.

How does that holding the iphone in your hand works? I see you have some kind of wrist device. Do you get one if you buy this?

Last note, I am buying this product solely because I do not own an iDevice. I have an android phone that I can do everything with, so there's no need to get an iDevice either, and if I did, it'd be an iPad.

It really is an interesting app but as of now it only works for IOS devices (iPhone/iPod Touch)  :)

Check out our other videos in Youtube and see how The Motion Synth can put into play. Try these links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOlIawT01uo it is basically a clip of how it works  ;)

Then that wrist is what we call as the AUUG Grip, it is used to iPhone/iPod Touch in place while creating music with it. I have here the link were you can find how to set it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spZPd4vPP4o if you crave for more infos about The Motion Synth, check out their website www.auug.com :D
