This seems a reasonable place to ask this; I'm playing on the Vita, and going after the final piece of the puzzle.

This would be the bottom-right piece, and the two-screen jump in 46,28/46,29.

I see how the jump is meant to work, and I've attempted it several times, but I consistently come up a few pixels short of the ledge. Two separate guide videos have shown it being cleared with a huge margin, starting apparently less altitude than I've managed.

Is there something special about dropping from the exact spot in the left-hand channel, or am I just terrible, or is something wrong here?

I wouldn't start out in the channel.  I start out bouncing in place right where the red power up is.  Then, at the apex of your bounce, transition to Mi and use the power up to achieve a higher point.  Switch back into the ball on the way back down where you'll collect the red power up again and switch to Mi at the apex and use the power up.  Rinse and repeat until you get high enough to clear the ledge.

It is possible to get to at least one of the bells without paying a gatekeeper.  Try using the disorder instead!

No I mean, I have only heard that it exists, but no mentions anywhere that people also found it. So it might be a trigger to some to reply with: Hey I found it! You get to it using this method <insert method here>.
