Hello friends!
I want to ask if anyone can/will make some custom ambience for use in a KS+ level I'm working on, and/or possibly some music.
Can I just say that to give as good an experience as possible to the players I want to keep as much of the level under wraps as possible, so I'm rather loathed to post any details but inevitably I have to for this. So if you're not likely to be able to help me then I recommend you don't read further than this, though of course I can't stop you and, at the end of the day, it's your choice.
My ambience request isn't the same as what I asked for in the Hidden Star Inn.
If you're still reading then hopefully that means you might be able to help me! I apologise in advance that I'm not very good about talking about sound; it's not my forte. Hopefully I'll be able to get my meaning across.
The level I'm working on is called 'Deep Remembers' and is primarily set underground. The area I'm designing at the moment is an abandoned-looking underground city and I want to give it a vaguely haunted-but-not-necessary-malignant feel. There are two or three sounds I want.
I want all the ambience in the area to be based around a wind sound. Track 8 in the Knytt Stories ambience folder is something I'd be happy with for this, and anyone making ambience for me could probably use this sound as a starting point (assuming that's allowed). Alternatively, if they used a different but similar sound, that'd be just as good.
I want two other version of the wind to give a haunted feel to parts of the area, the first where it's under-layered by a vague chatter of voices, like in a busy street or market. I want the voices to be quiet, not quite definitely heard, maybe rising and falling in volume, wrapping around the wind.
In fact, if you're feeling really epic, two versions of this particular track, one with a louder crowd and one with a quieter crowd for the market, and one with a quieter crowd for the richer areas of town, would be amazing.
The other sound I want is also around the same wind track, but its for a cathedral in the city and I want cathedral-ly music for it - again, quiet and tying in to the wind. Give it a tune (inasmuch as organ music has one) but a general sense of awe and forgotten things is what I want. Again, that impression of ghosts not quite settled. Obviously, I'll need this to loop.
There won't be any other music in this area. There might be quiet water tinkling from time to time, but otherwise there'll be no other sound to compete with.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention one other thing. I also would like a full-volume crowd sound, as if you were out there in a city street, for a cutscene.
I would really like to use all custom music in this level, though I'll settle for the default music if I have to. There's not actually a lot of music in the level; it's something I want to use sparingly. I don't want chiptune music - it wouldn't suit the atmosphere at all - though something with similar sounds to the KS default music would be good. I'm not very good at explaining this, but with that same... instrumentation. I hope that makes sense. I really don't know much about the technicalities of music.
In fact, if you do offer to help me with this, I'll probably be saying things like 'I want a track with a similar atmosphere to the KS default track 2' or whatever. But if you can help, I'd be very grateful. And whether you want me to make a level and you put sound to it, or you give me the sound to use... whatever suits you is what I'll go for (as long as you can wait for the former; it's a fairly long level, I haven't got very far and I tend to work at quite a slow pace).
Thanks anyone who read; sorry my technical knowledge is very lacking. Hopefully that hasn't put you off. Please post here if you'd be willing to help with anything. I really want to make this a great level!
