Nifflas Website
« on: December 02, 2011, 16:59:29 »
Hello there
I'm doing a college course in Interactive Media, and we have been asked to make a website based off one of our favourite websites.

So, I am doing a Nifflas Website. No one else on my course has ever heard of him, :P

At the moment, I'm going to make four pages; Home, Games, Downloads, and Contact.
And I'll be trying to use more rich media than the current Nifflas website.

So I want to ask, what would you want to see in the Nifflas website?
Try not to go too wild, I'm still learning how to make a website.

WEBSITE CAN BE SEEN HERE. Ver. 24/05/2012

Depending on the style of the website, I would suggest not putting music.

If it is going to be marked on the programming behind the website, put music in, but if it is going to be marked on the practicality of the website and the aesthetic features of it, putting music would just discourage the viewer of the website...

Thank you for your responses

I'd like to see a website that highlights really WHO he is. As an indie game developer, people
often operate under monikers and their true identity is lost in that.

I can understand this, I'll try put more information about HIM in one of the pages.

Depending on the style of the website, I would suggest not putting music.

If it is going to be marked on the programming behind the website, put music in, but if it is going to be marked on the practicality of the website and the aesthetic features of it, putting music would just discourage the viewer of the website...

The website will have quite a simple style, as with his current website.
I'm trying to put a bit more media into the website, while retaining the simplicity of the navigation.

But yeah, one of the main rules in our website, was to avoid putting music in, as it puts off a lot of people.

Hey, I'm hosting the website on an Opera Web Server, so if possible, please visit the website and let me know what you think.

The password is 'media'
The music page doesn't exist yet, as I only just made it.
And for some reason, there's an image that refuses to display on my PC.

Also, most of the downloads, if not all, are unlikely to work.

Quick question, do you think I should also include the other games Nifflas made on an extra page?
(Such as Type, Roll, Nifflas Car Game, etc.)

Ah, damn.

http://www.portfolioshowcase.co.uk/kenglish/

EDIT:
If the site doesn't load or anything, it might be because I've closed my browser (It runs alongside the browser).
If that's the case, send me a message, or post on this thread, and if I'm on my PC (Which is quite often), I'll quickly bring up the site.

EDIT EDIT:
Updated it with the portfolio showcase domain

It's on now :)

(I'm using Windows Live Mail to notify me while I work, it sometimes takes longer, as it did now)

It's down right now. :(

Maybe you could schedule a time for it to be on, like all day Saturday or something.

But yeah, from here on till Sunday-Monday, I'll try keep it open constantly.

I looked at it with Firefox and Internet Explorer. In both browsers the formatting was off. On the game page especially the outlined areas didn't match up with the contents and there was a big black box that had no apparent purpose. Otherwise, I found it strange that so much of the content sounded like Nifflas himself was saying it. I'm guessing that you were quoting him, but the way it was presented it seemed as though Nifflas was the author of your website.

The header graphic was nice. The general design concept was clean. I'm sure it will be a nice tribute site when it's finished.

Ah, I think it's not loading everything correctly.

I am quoting Nifflas, as it's supposed to be a redesign of his website, as the task of our college assignment describes.

I find it strange that Firefox and IE don't work, as that is the only two browsers I use at college.

At home I test it on Chrome, Opera, Firefox, and IE.

The big black box is an unfinished part, I plan to have a slideshow/video player there, but as I do not know Javascript, it's not finished.

I'm going to be working on this website for the rest of this year, so there is still a long way to go.
At the moment I'm still creating the pages.

Next week we're getting domain name spaces, if it's going to show up correctly, it'll be there.

I went to take a screen shot of the formatting problem and discovered that it only occurs when the browser window and the screen are not the same size. Maximize, full screen mode, and zooming in or out all fix it. I hope this helps you track down the problem.

Ah yes

At the moment the website is programmed to take up 100% of the window, which means it scales to fit the window no matter how small.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'll talk to my teacher about it.
