GIMP is being ridiculous..
« on: April 04, 2011, 20:06:45 »
Well, I've been using GIMP Portable for a very long time, for sprites and backgrounds and all that, now it's doing this really weird thing where the only colors that will work are the colors that were in the image in the first place. I try using black (or any other color for that matter) the color indication thing changes to the correct color, but when I try to use it on the image it just comes out as either brown, grey, or red. (These are the colors that were already in the image.) Help?

perhaps the image is saved with a fixed pallette? I don't know how to fix it in gimp, but I think I've had similar issues a while ago and that was the reason. save it as something else in a different format or something.

I once had this in paint shop pro, and it happened there if the image was reduced in colors (not 16 million colors). It had a fixed pallette and it behaved as you described.

In order for me to fix the image, I had to increase the amount of colors the image had to at least 16 million colors.

Hang on, I figured out how to add colors to the palette one time. Click Windows, and then go to Dockable Dialogs, and then Colormap. You should be able to add/modify colors from there.

Chances are your image is in "indexed" mode; if it is, just go to Image -> Mode and select RGB.
