The Great Work (the game) - Trailer
« on: November 22, 2010, 22:45:00 »
An upcoming Nifflas game! There is still no subforum for it, but I couldn't not post this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRsUCyYp5F8
Nifflas said this game would be a commissioned one. Apparently, it's related to these dudes: http://www.oskarochoskarsson.se/eng/

The game will help market Oskar & Oskarsson's upcoming documentary film (which is going to be awesome). Also, the game will be free!

This is the game which I'm waiting for some final instructions for so I can wrap it up, so I will soon pause Wadfknytt to do the final work on this, and then resume work on Wadfknytt in late January.

Wow, one great news after another! ^_^ Nice find, Ponto! :)

The game looks and sounds awesome. I like the swimming mechanism, reminds me a bit of Aquaria. Is 'Great Work' the final name or a tentative title?

Can't wait to play it!  :D

Wouldn't it be a better idea to focus on one game at a time?
What

I always do one game at a time, I've never worked on multiple projects. However, when I'm doing a commisioned game and find myself waiting for instructions from another party, I have to spend my work hours doing something useful. This is why as soon as I have the instructions, I'm completely going to stop Knyttwadf and work full time on this, and once it's done move back to working full time on Knyttwadf. I try to live off game development now, so there's no time for slacking.

Ah, so I saw that trailer and assumed it was for Knyttwadf. I wondered where the ball was.  :^^:

This looks sweet. I love the wacky little character with the limbs fluffing all over.  The water effect is really pretty, especially the surface as the character dives in and out. Nifflas, care to drop a clue on how this is done in MMF2?

How much does it cost to "commission" a game from Nifflas, anyway?

That depends really. Money-wise, this was kind of a risky project, because I accepted before we had found any proper funding at all. I had a strong personal interest in making the game. Otherwise I guess I'd be pretty expensive.

I guess then you don't want to share your secret to how it's done

Oh, that's just a distortion shader that Looki created that vertically and horizontally distorts the background based on an image. I don't think he have released it in public yet.
