AHH! What color does the empty space in a tileset have to be so that it wont show up?
That's called "Transparency" and it depends. If you're using MS Paint, try pure black (RGB 0,0,0) or magenta (RGB 255,0,255)

What is it in Paint.net?

A program
He said, "What is it in Paint.net?" not, "What is Paint.net?" I'm not sure. I don't use Paint.net. Ask around.
A God, a Messiah, an Angel, a King, a Prince, and an All Terrain Vehicle.

Be simple.
Don't go too hardout on your first tileset. Make them just simple, but not that plain.
1Pixel lines are the best, really. Nothing too blocky.
Look up pixel art help too, and desgin some pixel things to just kinda get the first hang of it.
Dark outlines, lighter inside. This is usally good, depending on what you are making.
Take your time.
Hope it slightly helps.
