[Action/Puzzle] Portal
« on: May 17, 2010, 15:20:42 »
http://store.steampowered.com/freeportal/ No longer free.

Portal used to cost money. Until May 24th, it's free. End of story.
Well, technically speaking, there are some strings attached. Fortunately, they're entirely decorative. We just like the way they look, swaying in the gentle breeze created by a million people simultanously fainting from shock at the news that Portal is free. Now you have no reason not to try Portal.
"I have a reason," some of you are probably typing into an angry email. "You see, sir, I own a Mac."
Well guess what: For the first time ever, Portal is also available for the Mac.

Portal is a puzzle / action game set in the Half Life universe, the story takes place in a secret research facility owned by the fictional company Aperture Science, Inc. The game follows an unnamed character (and only visible by creating "portal mirrors") as she is lead through a series of dangerous tests by a sinister robotic voice known as GLaDOS. The character must use inter-dimensional portal technology to overcome the challenges of the test chambers and come closer to discovering the mysteries behind GLaDOS and Aperture Science, Inc.

So, if there is any poor soul that has not played this yet, this is your chance!

The topic is indeed not conform the rules (missing screenshots), but in this case; its free till xxx doesn't qualify as a free game. It is shareware. Shareware often means, you get the full product until a certain date, and then you must pay to fully use it.

So this is not going to be allowed.

I'll keep the topic here for a few more days so you can read the 2 replies.

EDIT: It appears I misunderstood. Thanks to the moderators to point it out to me.

Since the game will not be locked until the 24th, I will allow this topic to exist till then too. But since it may happen that someone in the future happens to find this topic and miss out on the deal, I do not want to allow the topic to exist after that. Though I see no reason to delete the topic, so it'll be locked.

Please do add screenshots though!

I feel a bit stupid getting orange box for 360, that if anything is what you get for pc. Can't play tf2 (shit anyway) because I don't have xbox live (cheap bloodsucking microsoft) and I have played only a few levels in portal. Portal is fun but with xbox controller a lot harder then on pc. Also, no mods with 360.

Though I see no reason to delete the topic, so it'll be locked

you meant to lock this? It isn't locked.

If you need free space, make free space!
Delete stuff until you have the amount needed for Steam to install. Then just follow the blah and you will get Portal on your account. Which means you can download it for free anytime, you don't have to download the game itself now.

This is the only reason to get Steam.  :^^:

Not for me... thanks, but no thanks. X-P Through Steam, Valve exercises too much control over choices that are supposed to be left to my discretion, and no freebie is going to change that, no matter how brilliant it may be.

This is like cheese in the mousetrap, but I ain't no mouse, and there is plenty of trap-free cheese out there anyway. :shifty:

I agree SiamJai, but what I am saying is that I am not giving in to any advertising that involves me giving them money.  Plus I made sure that Steam doesn't open on startup, so I never have to worry about the damn program unless I want to play Portal.  Portal is really the only game that I'd want to play on Steam, and it's free, so why not? :P

I love this game. I play it way too much.
The game follows an unnamed character
The main characters name is actually chell
The elephant is a graceful bird,
It flies from bough to bough.
It nestles in the rhubarb tree,
and Whistles like a cow.

I'm back baby.

Agreed.

(Also, Linux.  That kind of makes it hard.)

Also, the game its already in my account. so its not a problem. now, to get the actual game installed...
