an art request! Pimp My Desktop
« on: April 30, 2010, 04:02:00 »
Hey, can someone put a top on this wallpaper?

a link to that image, just for kicks

This is the tileset used in it:

likewise

I was thinking something along the lines of "add tops to the trees, put some kind of sky in there".

This would be much appreciated! Using KS visuals recommended but not required!

From a designer point of view, I would actually suggest to move everything up 5 rows, and add a little bit to the bottom too. You have darker colours in your tileset, that would fit perfectly on the bottom.

Also, if you have your taskbar on the bottom, it'll overlap the most bottom ground tiles. You might not have the taskbar on the bottom, but someone else who also wants to use this might.

Hah. I don't even have a taskbar. X)

But yeah, the ground should definitely take up a bit more space.

Edit
What gradient did you use as background?

Well, it didn't turn out as well as i had hoped (probably not the best background), but here it is:

I have some criticism:
  • The tops look lopsided and don't really align well with the bottom; proposed solution: mirror bottom then vary
  • The trees in the back appear significantly taller than those in front; proposed solution: cut out background from top
  • The background tree bits appear far too bright in the top, using the washed blue-green color that worked in the bottom; proposed solution: cut out background from top.
  • The gradient at the top looks a little wonky but I can't put my proverbial finger on why.

much appreciated. I agree about the tops of the trees looking a little wonky. also, although i can't put my finger on it either, i thing the gradient is weird because it fades from white to orange, which might be throwing things off a little.

That looks very nice, ACWL. It works perfectly as a minimalistic "retro" wall-paper  8)

It'd be cool if you or someone else made a night version of it.
Some KS levels by me:
