claiming is bad

it's much more fun if it's erased every once in a while so it doesn't become a huge mess (like it is now)
I disagree. I'm working on a large structure, there's some awesome ASCII art, and there's some... interesting Juni porn.

holy frick I can't believe someone actually made Juni porn.

wait, no.  yes, yes I can believe that.  BUT I WISH I COULDN'T.

Also, I agree that conversations should be erased regularly, but not ASCII art.  Unless it sucks/is already somewhere else.

To whoever is deleting the... things involving Juni, please stop doing so and simply refrain from going to those coordinates. Thank you.

yeah, It just occurred to me that protecting this place maybe isn't such a good idea, and I've given up on it. still, please don't post anything that wouldn't be allowed here, or at least not without warning beforehand.

Anyone else having the problem of editing things and having their edits just...disappear?  It seems to happen mainly when I'm using non-ASCII characters.

That's happened to me too but I think it's just people undoing what I did because they disagree with it or something.

that keeps happening to me, and it seems to only do it with non-ASCII. I type a whole sentence, look up from my keyboard, and it has only got the first few chars or so.

That has happened to me as well.

Also - may i propose that NOBODY edits ASCII art that are tagged with NO EDITING. I get where you are coming from monkey, but it's probably a good idea to leave them alone for a while before you edit them, so other people get a chance to see 'em
I'm not dead. Not entirely. And yes, I'm embarrassed by most of the posts I made here.

I had a conversation with ACWL or something like that:

Spoiler: image (click to show/hide)

It was deleted shortly after that, and I don't think I left anything important out; if I did, just add it as a reply.

Also, if nobody can parse English without punctuation, I'll translate it.

Nah, there wasn't anything much that you missed in that screenie. I still hold my stand that there should be some (at least rudimentary) rules set down

The whole problem with World of Text is the ability to anonymously break any rule whatsoever.
Lurk more.

Good idea, I'm doing that for mine.

EDIT: and I just found something really cool at 3,-3.

Rule 1: Respect others' work.

That is all.

Just because it's an open canvas doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it. It's kinda like smashing up someone's Lego contraption when they leave the room because it's stupid and pointless Lego anyways and you can do it anonymously so why not.

A temporary IP ban voted on by the other currently online users would help solve things, although it could be heavily abused, and the ability for (registered) users to 'protect' their own work woulld be good too, except people would make a huge meaningless block beside something else and protect it, so.

Eh, it's not really solvable I guess. Arseholes who want to ruin everyone's fun will always find a way to do it.

Regarding "arseholes": What about people who edit without malicious intent?  If the author is upset with an edit to his or her work (including deletion), it doesn't necessarily mean that was the intended outcome.

Regarding Lego contraptions: The comparison would be better if it's given that the Lego contraption in question is part of a big Lego field where everyone knows everyone else is contributing anonymously, and must accept that before constructing it; if people here don't want to accept this implication of anonymity on an open canvas, and would rather get worked up whenever people do things they think are stupid, I welcome them to make their own members-only world of text. In the case that the world of text requires login, the comparison of destruction of a Lego contraption when the author leaves to anonymous deletion is far more valid.

My proposed solutions to your problems:
  • Keep it the way it is and add a disclaimer to the first post that it is indeed anonymous and everyone should accept this before contributing.
  • Make a second members-only private text thing and only suffer if members are destructive.
  • Make your own variant of world of text in which edits are tracked and authors can protect their work if they really value it that much.
