how to put an image in one's signature?

Or even in messages if such is enabled, while we're on the topic? At the moment i'm doing this, except without the spaces,  which results in nothing.  It worked on some other forum.

How should I be doing it?

Yah, it's not working. Some sites won't work, like Flickr and, apparently, Twitter. Most other sites will, though. Like this.

Code: [Select]
If the address itself ( http://failblog.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/epic-fail-advertising-fail.jpg ) links to the picture, it'll most likely work. Yours ( http://twitpic.com/11eoqv ) isn't a .PNG, .JPG, .GIF, etc, so it's not gonna appear. :P

You can get the actual URL of the pic if you right click on the image --> Copy image location.
In that case:
Code: [Select]

Yours ( http://twitpic.com/11eoqv ) isn't a .PNG, .JPG, .GIF, etc, so it's not gonna appear. :P

It doesn't need an image extension, it just needs to be an image or a script that displays one.

Pretty much what I was about to say.

PP's object images, which I use in the Object Compendium, have no extension:

The image url is:
http://fintmcwells.com/NiffForum/Objects/Bank0/Object9
(secretly hoping nobody will mention the object compendium)

Ah, well, at any rate, since the pic doesn't appear as a URL, it won't appear as an image.

Really? The browser must be smart enough to recognize that there's only one such file in the directory you're accessing. I know I didn't put in any special code for that.

Incidentally, all the forum avatars don't have a file extension in the address ( http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=3209;type=avatar )
Lurk more.

That's the sort of thing I'm assuming minmay was referring to by a script, given its use of query strings ("?action=dlattach;attach=3209;type=avatar") and all that.

AUGH! Thanks so much.

If the address itself...links to the picture, it'll most likely work. Yours...isn't a .PNG, .JPG, .GIF, etc, so it's not gonna appear.
Sure, NOW I feel silly for having overlooked that, but I never would have made that particular leap of logic without asking.
So, assuming twitpic's image locations stay the same, for example, this...

should work.

Well it worked in preview, anyway.

Remember, we all agreed that I was wrong. :P If the URL has a script to call up an image, or the URL is an image itself, it should work.

Just click view full size, right click and copy image url. However, this doesn't work always, and this is one fo those cases. Instead, click properties and copy the addres where it says URL.

yeh, sorry pumpkinbot, wasn't actually bagging you out there, was taking your advice happily.  I thought it was working when it appeared in the preview.  So, i THINK it works ( ), just for some reason not always. Sorry if i'm missing obvious explanations, my HTML is nonexistent.

Well, as I now have a picture in my signature, I suppose it might just be twitpic.  That's what i'll blame it on, anyway.  Thanks all!

Quite. The code you're putting in is an attempt to place the webpage showing the image into a signature, rather than the actual image. As limelemon said, right click -> copy image location (I use firefox)

Yes I know, but I thought that I just as well could serve the whole thing on a silver plate for him. Ctrl+C is your best friend.

And I thought I'd dish out the whole explanation for future reference. So everyone's happy. C)
