Knytt Stories Content Licensing

So! I'm interested in using Knytt Stories graphics in a game I'm making in my free time. Nonprofit, of course, but it will be submitted to a competition. (Of which, by the way, neither I nor the competition holder will have any monetary gains or prizes.) Is that allowed? I thought there would be something on it, but there is little info about licensing as far as I can tell. Can anyone fill me in?

Can you be more specific about the graphics? Are you only aiming at the backgrounds, or tilesets? or are you referring to graphics from ingame?

Sure. I'm simply using some of the tilesets found from knyttlevels.com, and then 2 backgrounds. I don't need anything like player graphics.

If you mean custom tilesets (as opposed to the default ones), then you need the permission of the tileset's author, not that of Nifflas.  The default tilesets can not be used in other games, period.

Well, yeah - it was agreed when the default tilesets were drawn that they could not be used in anything else.  Those were the terms.
