Speed Runs

Has anyone thought about doing a speed run? (Good Ending)
Would be quite interesting as the game is quite non-linear.
I like it.

It may be a little early for that...
But I'd be glad to be proven wrong.

Only four solar systems.. I'd actually like to do it, but I can't seem to get my screen video-er to work.

I think this should be in the Challenges subforum.

Regardless, other than the full game speed run, we could also do one for each star system, although we'd need to establish some rules (puzzle completion, all items, recharger).

Yeah I guess you could probably skip a lot of the puzzles if you knew the codes before hand, however in a lot of other games the rules simply are "no third party programs" and "no cheat codes". So you could have:

1: Must achieve full ending and not use inbuilt debugging thing.

or

2: Must complete all puzzles, achieve full ending and not use inbuilt debugging thing.

I suppose it's up to who does the speed run, and could just mark it.
I like it.

This topic doesn't seem to be the actual Speed Run topic, so I didn't moved it. It seems to be a suggestion. Feel free to create a new topic with the rules once decided and post it in the challenges forum. :)

I think having to recharge could drastically knock down someone's time. Maybe just having it at the 'charger ready' state?

I'd say charging is an essential part of the game and should be kept. As not every solar system allows you to recharge the same amount of power you might have to travel in a certain pattern in order to optimize time.

One detail is that if you keep the PDA open, you can see the battery value increase as you charge it. You might be able to cut the time a few seconds by never charging the ship more than you actually need to get to the next planet, although it's probably only a matter of 5 seconds of gameplay in the end.

I don't mind if anyone wants to create a section in challenges for this once the rules are sorted, I probably wouldn't be able to keep it updated.

(Aside from the existing Speed Runs thread, witch concerns the individual challenges.)
