This is the main idea: you can make any kind of level you want (challenge, environmental, puzzle, maze, playground... even a tutorial) and use whatever material you want. So, "what's the catch", you may ask? Well, I'll tell you:
it must be humorous. It doesn't matter how you do it, you can achieve this goal any way you want. You could tell a funny story, make fun of something, make a level so apparently bad it's hilarious, fill the level with stupid dialogues, use funny custom graphics/sound... it's up to you. You could even combine some of these ideas at the same time.
It doesn't have to be pure comedy gold, but it must, at the very least, make me chuckle or draw a smile to my face. If you cannot manage even that... well, you're pretty much toast. Don't worry, though: I'm not a grumpy, bitter old man who hates everything and require a very special brand of humor. You can resort to everything you want. Toilet jokes? Cool! Dirty embarrasing situations? Excellent! Complete and utter nonsense? Great! Sarcastic and witty remarks for sophisticated gentlemen such as me? Magnificent! Obscure internet/videogames/nerdy references? Encouraged! (as long as you don't go extremely overboard, that is
).
Of course, I'm not gonna rate your level on hilarity alone. Here's a detailed list of the criteria I'll be using to evaluate your work, just like the one egomassive posted for the previous competition:
* Humor: This is where you can rack the most points (up to 18). A really hilarious and fun level with simplistic design can outperform an highly detailed, graphical powerhouse with generic plot / boring dialogues... so it would be a good idea to focus on this
* Gameplay/Polish: Up to 12 points will be awarded to well designed, enjoyable levels (no voids/wall-swims, well balanced difficulty, nice visuals...)
* Originality: You can score up to 10 points if the idea for your level is something new and interesting. Try to be creative!
* Bonus for related challenge/puzzle: If you manage to throw some challenges or puzzles into your level that are inherently funny (or if you can make them funny somehow), you may get up to 5 extra points.
That adds to a total of
45 maximum points. You can try to balance the scores as you wish. For example, you may want to use a poorly-made tileset if you think that makes the level funnier. That could make you lose a few points, but you'll probably gain more in exchange. As I said before, it's entirely up to you. Of course, if you manage to make a level that is hilarious, original and well polished at the same time... then you'll probably be the undisputed champion of this edition
I'm also aware that this theme might be a pretty subjective thing to evaluate. Therefore, I might ask for a second opinion when judging the levels. If I decide to do so, I will post here asking for volunteers (you cannot be an assistant judge if you're a contestant, of course)
So... go ahead,
don't DO make me laugh!
