[Easy][Environmental] A Black Comedy
« on: July 25, 2009, 00:14:25 »
I posted a very small beta of this level a few months ago, when I still had great things in mind for it - a large complex story-driven level, blah blah blah. Of course I was too lazy and too incompetent to make a large complex story-driven level, but I liked the tileset too much to just abandon it. So I used it to make a small environmental level. It's plotless, and quite random (the tileset is entirely in four colors, black, white and two shades of grey, as it the original level was meant to be a black and white movie from the 1960's, but the gradient in most of the level actually has some navy blue in it), but though it's small there is a bit of exploring.

So yeah, it's not much, but I hope it can make for an amusing few minutes. I would strongly recommend playing it in full screen mode, because of the detailing, and a word of warning just in case: there's a single instance of a fairly mild profanity in dialogue. Not vulgar and not offensive, but a bit crude. The level technically has no ending - unless you know where to look.

I like the black-and-white theme. It's very promising.

However, this level is way too short to do the tilesets justice.
good bye

Fair criticism, definitely - it's certainly very small, though I don't think it's actually extremely so; it's 44 screens.

I didn't specify this, but you can actually enter and explore most of the buildings in the village area.

Wow, bizarre ending!  C)p

Great level! Made me grin quite a few times. I love your style, especially the sprites - they have a lot of character for creatures made up of a few pixels!

Pretty interesting. I like the idea, and the tileset is not only well-made, it seems to have been put to good use as well.

Yeah I noticed this, but only because I ran around while holding down. 9_9

found both endings. Pretty cool, but a bit "more" would be nice.
e.g: find a high jump at the end of this level, and go back to the start to jump up to another level of your building.

Thats strange... The 255th tileset seems to be missing ffrom the level's folder, since I have there a default tileset

I love this level. The tilesets, the sprites and all the little funny bits of dialogue. I don't know what kind of story you originally had in mind for this, but I think it would be great if you added a lot more to this level later on.

decent level. the tileset is fun. no major gripes, except it lacked structure.
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)
and the title is a bit odd. could i suggest renaming it "A Black and White Comedy" or "A Monochrome Comedy"? it currently sounds like a Tyler Perry movie.

Hmm.
I was expecting a blacksploitation level.
