This is indeed more of a parody on videogaming. Reminds me of "You have to burn the rope".
I don't think it's a parody so much as something new; though it
does have elements parodying R-Type, they're hardly R-Type-exclusive elements. (Beyond the basic shooter setup, I didn't see anything very R-Type-y about it.) (You Have to Burn the Rope isn't really parody either- it's funny, but it doesn't really make fun of anything in particular.)
This game is hardly a game. It's more an experience of massive confusion.
