Agreed.  Prefer playing on Insanity; you'll get an extra fifteen seconds on the last part of the final boss, too.

ESC worked back when the game was in the beta stages, but the functionality was, for some reason, removed.  You need to go to the map screen, go over to Options, and then select Quit.
