[Environmental] Apocalyptic City
« on: June 11, 2009, 10:13:29 »
Summer vacation just started for me, so I began to work on this level a little bit. Apocalyptic City will have Juni as a lone survivor living in the midst of a destroyed city long abandoned. The level will have little to no text messages, and instead I'll try to convey the story elements of the city, and the disaster that took place, through hand-drawn graphics. There will be a ton of original content, such as custom objects, ambiance, music, sound effects, and tilesets. I plan to work on this for a long time, and I hope to have several distinct sections of the city that will be fun to explore.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a basic idea of what the city will look like: Destroyed

Here's a song type I plan to include: The Rose Window

And here's a spoiler image of the first screen. It's not done yet, but it's a start.
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll be working on this for a long time, so any ideas or constructive criticism you guys have will be great for motivating me to finish this! :D

Important! Demos will be posted on the archive.

Update 1: Demo of nearly finished first screen.
Update 2: New demo. A few more screens (which aren't finished) but you get the idea.
Update 3: New demo on the archives, entitled "Apocalyptic City Alpha 1." A new gradient and a few minor tweaks.

The concept hasn't really been fully explored in KS yet, and the screenshot looks promising. I eagerly anticipate this level's release. (Incidentally, would it not be "Post-Apocalyptic City"?)
good bye

Wow it looks good! I agree with goog that the post apocalyptic angle hasn't been used very much, but a lot of people talk about it. I'm just waiting for a whole bunch of levels like these to come out, but I think I'm looking forward to yours the most!

Yeah but Deserter Life is really short and never actually goes into a city.

I had a bit of time to work on this today, so I added a generator to Juni's shelter and fixed up those steel girders on the left. There's a download on the original post, if you want to try out the nearly finished first screen. :P

Also, thanks to everyone for the feedback so far! I wasn't expecting this many people to be interested already. :^^:

I really enjoyed the screen. 8) The tileset is AMAZING :whoa: (as your all tilesets). Other graphic like custom objects and different effects is perfect. I am really looking foward it.
Keep working. This level will be really very good. ;)
