Either it was a joke, or he was just experimenting... he figured
worked, so he tried :dog:, maybe because he likes dogs.

ugh, I wish I hadn't even kept this discussion open in the first place. now people go and spam these smileys all over, although they were just meant to be neat little extras that occur occasionally.

There's a difference between using one of the hidden smileys incidentally and going all "ZOMG HIDDEN SMILEYS" and spamming them whenever possible.

I haven't seen anyone spamming them. They're just being used now, and a few people sigged them.
