I absolutely love the music :D
Great, perfectly captures the mood, everything.
I hate to say that I doubt the intro will work, though..
It is also great, but it is my impression that it needs to be playable when the rival is walking away/to you and such..
And it sounds like a battle intro (not bad at all, just maybe not fit )
However, all is perfect if we have a walking around rival theme. :)

But the music is definitely a keeper.
By the way, I'm not sure if you noticed but four of your tracks (two battles, one route, victory) are official :)

Ok I tried to make a home town theme, but it didn't turn out exactly the way I hoped, but I still hope it's good enough:

Also I wasn't sure if Wichu was planning to make a day/night system like in D/P/Pt so I made another version:

I really like it. Very calm and pleasant.. I have no problems whatsoever with it, except that
Quote
uses woodwind instruments for the melody
in the op.
Little root town music (in hgss format)
Twinleaf town music
or
Newbark town music
Can be used as examples..
The instruments should be pretty similar to those used in these.. Very cozy sounding.

I think your track is actually perfect, however, for the oriental town.. If that's ok with you of course ;)
I think almost all town tracks in the op list a few examples.. I think if you stick to similar instruments and pace they will be perfect :D

Thanks for the track!
Dj.

Quote from: Wichu
A Dropbox account would be a pretty good solution to this.

Anyway, I'm not too keen on this piece. It doesn't really sound like music that would be played in a town. The percussion and instruments (mainly the synths) make it sound more like route music. The music in the first town always has a prominent melody; in most games, it's played on a woodwind instrument. The main thing I dislike about the piece, though, is that the melody is too short and simple, and just repeated with a few variations throughout the piece. In this piece, the melody is 4 bars long; in, say, New Bark Town's music, it's 24 bars. Also, the melody should be a bit more lively; the starting town's music should be peaceful, yet also playful.

To be honest, I think that the melodies in pretty much all the pieces so far are too short or simple; even my favourite (battle music 2) repeats the main melody once (I also dislike the repetition of the short phrase at the end), which is a shame as I really like the mood of the piece. Structure-wise, I prefer route music 1, as although it's shorter, the melody doesn't repeat. However, the piece feels a bit flat, as it's pretty much the same throughout.

Would the musicians mind if I had a go at making the 'skeletons' of some tracks and then passed them along for fleshing out?

Finally, I've been playing Pokémon TCG on the GBC recently, and really like some of the battle music from it (e.g. the Club Master battle). I'm considering having a remix of it in Amethyst as the Gym Battle theme; any musicians up for that?

From wichu in a pm.
Basically he would prefer more complex tracks that don't repeat. ;)
That doesn't mean your work is trash at all, though..
He was wondering whether or not he could edit / play around with the tracks a little.
Let me know, :)
Dj.

Sure he can do whatever he wants with it, as long as I'm still credited :P
Change it, and shove it whereever you want ;)

I never seem to be able to keep my original idea, and work it out the way I planned, it always sounds very different from what I expected. I don't know what every note sounds from head, hence I have trouble charting it exactly the same and then having to change a lot of other stuff to make it sound correct. And I am a little bit of a copy-paster, sorry, making variations to every part of a melody takes a lot of time, which I just don't have. As for that remix of the club master battle, same problem as here.

If you want, I can try charting the music in Finale Notepad (or if you know another free programm to do that that'd be fine too).

Do you have any experience in tracking? That would allow saving, allowing more time involved without constant pressure..
Plus they are mostly free.
Try Mod Tracker if you're interested.. :D
And of course you will get credit.
:P

Random revival is random. <3

I tried a theme for the unnamed "Proud city". I'm saying tried since most tracks I made ended up for something different than they were meant for. :P

Wow!
Man, I'm sorry, I haven't looked here in ages.
I'll check these out, then edit in some critique!
Edit:
Listened through everything; so far, Rainglade, Contest Hall and Surfing are my favorites. :)
Will post thorough analysis soon (Checked out the nifforum just before bed and found myself listening to more than hour of music :P )
Also, 'legendary battle loop' is an invalid link.
Once again, you are completely awesome for doing this (almost) unprompted.
Thanks a bunch!
~Dj

Oh yes, there's a Dropbox folder set up now, so if anyone else is still interested in making music for this project, send me a message with your Dropbox mail, and I'll add you to the folder.
