[Environmental][Horror] The Experiment
« on: May 27, 2010, 08:46:34 »
I'm working on this level on the side, to take a break from the massive undertaking of Tarot.
I can tell you, just from testing it so far, it is much scarier than anything I've ever made before, but I can't pinpoint why...
Anyway, just wanted to get this idea online to keep everyone interested in my work in general.  :^^:
Again, the style is minimalist, dark, and overall very creepy. (Knytt Stories is an outlet for my darker side~)
The tileset I'm using is based off of my Aperture Science (Portal) tiles, just to make sure they work out for any other levels I might make in the future.  ;)

Introduction:

In order to travel to a parallel universe, one must enter a true void outside of space itself.
This can be done in theory, but nobody has ever taken the risk.
At last, a volunteer arrives.
The destination is still unknown. We know how to get her there, but have not determined what kind of place it is.
We have the capabilities to have her return home, but we cannot directly communicate with her once she is there.
Despite the obvious danger, she readily accepts the opportunity to be the first to go.
We are sending her away now. We hope that she returns safely...

Hmm, the sreen looks very "plastic" so it's quite interesting.
The storyline is good

I quite like the look of the screenshot and the story is nice too. I'll be interested to see where you take this.

The screenshot looks like a grayscale SMB level. O_o

And if you make a level that will make me scared to go on to the next screen (cheap shocks don't count), I will give you a star. :D

Progress is slow, but it's there!
Added a screenshot in the first post if anyone's interested~
The beginning isn't really that scary now that I'm used to the sound effects I used, but the ending is looking to be pretty creepy!

Oh wow, it does! XD
There are some areas with really tiny blocks that made it look even more like SequoiaView, but they were really frustrating so I stuck to the regular sized blocks!
