Birch Forest Sequel

Yes, I am coming out with a sequel to the Birch Forest.  This level is going to be based in the savanna and once I finish drawing up some trees I'll post some previews.  Hopefully this level will be bigger and better and have more species of plants.

The trees in this level are based off of the Baobabs of Madagascar.

It looks fine, but I think that your baobabs have too small treetops.

Width or Height?

Both, but especially width.
I think it should look a little bit like umbrella. Actually, baobabs have wide treetop with very dense foliage, so water from soil and root system of the tree does not evaporate as much as from surrounding savanna. It helps them to survive there. But they lose their leaves in the driest part of year, so our trees may have small young leaves and so their treetop is not as big as usually.
I am sorry for being such nitpicker and I look forward to play this level much.

egomassive made a really good savannah tileset a few years back. He's given blanket permission to "use, edit, and borrow from for your Knytt Stories levels" so you could pick out any parts that would be useful to you as long as you give credit. There's even a companion "Sahara"/Hoggar tileset with the same permissions which has some fantastic vegetation aswell, even if you're not making any sandy desert areas.

On the topic of the baobab, I'd be inclined to have the canopy as wide as the trunk is tall;

Although it looks narrower than that, it's an optical illusion due to the strange proportions
