Steam Overlay is Broken
« on: January 07, 2012, 03:05:25 »
Normally, I don't use walkthroughs for games (really, I seldom have the need), but I am genuinely lost in Saira. Puzzle games such as these would be no sweat for me but for some reason I am stuck. So I decided to check GameFaqs for a walkthrough, and I found one, to my delight. The only problem is that I can't use the Steam overlay.

The problem is, the overlay keeps flashing and glitching, that it's impossible to read anything without getting nauseous. The browser window would get shoved, between these "flashes" to the upper left corner of the screen, and back to the center, leaving the window too small to read anything inside.

Can anyone please tell me how to fix this? I'll provide necessary information as it is needed.
Thanks in advance.

this sounds like a resolution problem. The browser window being too big to fit the overlay and thus trying to size things but fail. Not sure if Nifflas can do anything about this.

Can you try playing in windowed mode, and see if the problem still occurs?

I tried windowed mode, and the problem does not occur.

By the way, my screen resolution is 1024x768.

When you go full screen, your resolution will be less than that.

At least now you have a workaround. :) Still not sure if Nifflas can fix this. There have been more problems reported with full screen stuff made in MMF2.

It's unfortunately Multimedia Fusion 2's fault, and how its full screen mode is implemented. I can't solve it without breaking other things. Again, it's one of many reasons why I'm planning to move to another dev tool (hint: Unity) in the future.

That's a shame. Well, I guess that means I'm not supposed to use walkthroughs after all.  X)

If I were to play in windowed mode, I'd rather have Chrome open than the Steam overlay anyway. And in fullscreen I can just tab out, so no big deal.

Still, I love how Saira (and NightSky as well!) looks so good and runs so well on my old laptop.

If you have a spare 19" or bigger monitor, you can hook it up to your laptop, so your resolution can be 1280x1024 (or bigger if your monitor supports that). There's a chance you won't have this problem then.
