[4 player co-op top-down Shooter] Alien Swarm
« on: July 22, 2010, 12:33:24 »
Made by a group of Valve designers, who were hired from the mod community,  Alien Swarm is an free, class-based top-down shooter which is playable with up to 4 players. Also, the complete code base is available and you get a nice SDK to develop custom levels and stuff. It runs on Source engine and requires steam to be played.

This game requires Steam, right?

It would be handy to tell people it does.

When some friends said I should try it I did. First I played offline a tutorial game. It was pretty okay. not fun but with real players, sure. So I tried to connect to a game. Took 20 minutes and I still couldn't get anywhere. Even with 4 friends in game atm. So I uninstalled.

But rly, entire steam plays it.

Personnaly, it takes about 30 seconds to join a game... so..

But its the same for me and tf2, it takes like 5 minutes to load.  <_<

But me and my friends LOVE this game! We have made a "squad"
Im wildecat (speed boonus, yay)
One firend is faith (speed boonus, yay)
another is the commander guy
and the third is a tech

its really fun

also, you get a free tf2 hat after completing 2 missions

Even though I'm not a big fan of shooters of this kind, it's a quiet fun game. (though the last level is absolutely evil, even on easy).

I haven't figured out how the level building thingy works yet, so far I've build a wireframe block...

So add me if you want, I guess...

I already had this game, but the loading bar always stops just shy of the end, so I've never got to play D:

my name is the same as here, if I ever get it working.

Also, if you want to know where ACWL got his signature, here it was. Just enter your username or Steam ID, and the template you want your sig to have, and it automatically generates your sig (based on your in-game stats) and the BBCode.

Do not use the Big template. It's 680px high, and the maximum height allowed by the Official Forum Rules is 200px.
In other words, the Mods will STL-ify your sig.

I did enjoy it, but it takes far too long to load and connect for me, and half the time it just fails to connect entirely. I've also been put off it by several game-breaking bugs that disconnect or just plain crash the game. :/

I've got this game, and I can definitely say I thoroughly had a blast in this.
Not unlike Smeagle, My platoon of friends and I made a basic group of sorts.
NESgamer190 (Me) As Faith.  (Need to get the most out of healing my comrades, and I'm not fond of the healing beacons!)
LJ555 as Crash or Vegas.  (Designated Technician)
Jetforcesoldier as Wildcat.  (Main source of heavy firepower)
Can't remember final friend who played Wolfe.
If anyone needs an extra comrade, just notify =L4DA= NESgamer190 and I'll be right to it!  I have to agree that Timor station was evil, even on easy mode, but I personally see first timers having a buttload of trouble once a certain enemy gets introduced.
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)
I sure hope more official campaigns get added to Alien Swarm.

Well, it's =L4DA= NESgamer190 for any future requests.  To remain on topic of the game, there was also the sake of the hacking minigames in certain missions which was fun, yet challenging.  Giving Hacking tips in a spoiler, just in case it's a sort of 'secret'.
