Hiya people, me again. having given up on
WaKF, I have begun working on games in GameMaker8. I have formulated an idea for a new game, however I require some help with the making of it.
Genre : Adventure/Puzzle
Story : It is based on the premise of "around the world in 80 days". The charachter you control is going to be forced to do something he does not want to do, unless he can help a family member (probably an uncle) with some errands. these errands take you on a journey around the world, visiting several countries on the way. In each country you will have to complete several sub-errands. as i see it, this will contain NO fighting etc.
The game will be set in the era of the industrial revoloution, so there would be workhouses, mills and factories etc, etc, etc.
Graphics style : I don't know how to exactly explain it, but as i see it, the characters would be in a similar style to that of the (for want of a reference) newer pokemon games. Characters are cartoony, and scenery is from a tilted birds-eye (eg: if you were to look at a cube, you would see the top face, and the front face.
Graphics:
I need graphics big time.
Sprites:
- I need a sprite of the main character, facing all four directions, as well as a sprite sheets of him walking in all four directions.
- I also need a sprite of the uncle who send the main character on the journey. he will probably be seated behind a table.
- Need at least 3 different sprites for passers-by in london
- Sprites for a door open and a door closed, as well as a closed door that is locked
- A sprite for a key
Graphics:
I will be using tilesets for most of the scenery. tilesets can be an size, but should comprise of 32x32 squares. PNGs work best, and transperancy is good. Almost everything can go on tilesets, as interactive objects will be made using invisible objects
- I need a tileset that will cover interior spaces in england (the starting city). I need things like floorboards of varying quality, tables, chairs, wardrobes and wallpapers (for the back wall), as well as anything else that would fit into the setting, like a rug.
- I will also need, however not as desperatly, a tileset that can do most, if not all of the outside world of London. i will need to make buildngs of varying sizes and...poshness, as well as stuff like lamp posts, etc.
I am going to set up a 'team' for this game. Guessing that smeagle would like to be in the graphics department, the team currently is:
Game Design: AClockWorkLemon
Graphics: smeagle, EmeraldFire7 (I would like to have a few more graphics members)
Debug/beta testing: nobody (definately need some people!)
Game design:
For the moment, I will be hogging this role. If I run into problems, i will post them in this thread. If you have a solution, feel free to post.
Graphics:
The graphics team will be designing graphics for the game. the graphics will be in the forms of both stationary and animated sprites (animated sprites work in the same way as KS CO's, but its easier if they are all on the same line) and tilesets to be used a backgrounds. Tilesets can be of any size, but each 'tile' must be 32x32 pixels. Game maker is NOT required to do graphics.
Debug/Beta testing:
Fairly self explanitory. During the course of the project, I will be releasing versions to be tested. All releases will come open source, so it will contain both a compiled .exe and the .gmk file. Although not 100% necessary, GameMaker 8 Pro
IS recomended. (If you don't have GM8Pro, i'm sure you can find a torrent of it
)
EDIT:
Forgot to say, anybody working on the project should make a sprite of themselves, as i will be including each team member in the cities
