I would guess that they are planets, somewhat transparent planets. That's at least what I believe them to be.

What are those?
Background. ;)

Yes, probably planets.

They probably ought to be the shadowside of planets. But in any case its scenery. :)

They looks like black holes

They looks like black holes

If they were black holes, you wouldn't be able to see anything in the game.

Or would you? :shifty:
They can still be black holes, if the game doesn't follow conventional physics.

well it has its own physics so it must be true  :O

If you say the game doesn't follow conventional physics, then you have to redefine your notion of a black hole. Can't talk about black holes without physics, so that sentence ends up being meaningless. :P

It means it may be true, after you account for the necessary modifications to the definition of a black hole with these physics, as PONTO pointed out.  It, however, does not mean that it must be true.

Incidentally, the ball goes down in the game, implying that the game takes place in a gravity well.

Also, what about those weird little curvy things floating in the background?

Those are birds.  Time-frozen birds.

Those are birds.  Time-frozen birds.

But they move.

Just remember, "Unconventional physics" does NOT equal to "Completely different from conventional physics."
But, consider this: They're decorations.

The birds themselves are time-frozen, but they can still drift and rotate through space.  You won't see them flapping their wings or anything though.

Birds aren't decorations......
are they?

Wait , no one sells black hole decorations bigger than the size of earth.

Or do they? :shifty:
Anyway, we all know that at the end of roll, the ball is stuck. So it waits the hundred years in solitude. In the meantime, two ominous black holes grow closer, before slowly digesting the ball. That is provided it does not starve to death first.

does that ball have a mouth?

Honestly, I doubted the original post's seriousness from this thread's start, and it's completely nonsensical to discuss different theories about what the story behind some scenery of a game is any further. Not that it made any sense in the beginning, but oh well.
You might or might not remember Nifflas once (or more) saying that there often is no "correct" story behind things in his games and that he likes (or doesn't mind) people making up their own version. That, however, doesn't mean it's actually necessary to publicly discuss these ideas. Have fun with them in your own head.

While I agree that it isn't necessary discuss this, couldn't we at least get to do it for fun?

By the way, I think they are silhouetted planets.

No, it means that everyone else is wrong.

what the heck. I thought you'd stop without being forced to, but I guess that was a futile hope.
