Title: [Challenge] Hands of the Earth---Sequel to Fingers of the mountan
Post by: Razzorman on February 28, 2009, 17:29:05
General info
I stopped working on this quite a while ago, but I just got interested in working on it again, so here we go.
This will be a very plot-heavy level. The story will be revealed a little at a time for each powerup you find.
I'm trying to get a good mix between custom and default tilesets and music, and I think I have been pretty successful so far.
Difficulty wise, it will range somewhere between hard and normal.

Plot details
The level takes place some hundred years after the events in Fingers of the Mountain. The runestaff has been hidden away for ages, and nobody knows where it is anymore. The story about it has been told for ages and is believed to be nothing but fairy tales, but suddenly the land begins to change again, and the little village is visited by a stranger with a package for a certain Juni.

Prequel
Fingers of the mountain can be found here (http://www.knyttlevels.com/levels/Razzorman%20-%20Fingers%20of%20the%20mountain%20V2.knytt.bin).

This is looking nice. I loved the "first part". Go on =)

There are a few voids in the prequel:
1. Float right from the top of the eyeball blocks, and climb the invisible tiles.
2. Float left from the runestaff
3. Do a corner jump from the runestaff, and go right.

About this level, the screens look good. Hope the challenges are as nice as the first. :)

Crud. X) I seem to have uploaded an older version. Hang on a sec...

Edit: I fixed it. The newer bug-free version is up now.

Okie. Lemme try this again.

EDIT: Yes, indeed. This version does have less voids.

Don't go so hard on it. It was the third level i ever made. I stopped working on Fingers of the mountain ages ago, so there is no need in pointing out its flaws. They aren't going to be fixed. 9_9
I just decided to put it up there because I am making a sequel for it.

I don't mean to be critisizing.. Your levels are amazing.

You might get a nicer level if you somehow can make the trees and such on the tilesets more smoothly. You should use black with 50% transparancy and add some pixesls to make it even nicer.

Well, as far as I know, skyflyer hasn't registered here yet, so there is not really any way I could ask for permission to do anything with the tileset. :S

After this you should make Arms of the Ocean. :D

Hands -> Fingers -> Fingernails

Earth -> mountain -> Sky or Mountain top

Actually, its the other way around.

Fingers -> Hands -> ?

Mountain -> Earth -> ?

Arms of the Solar System? (Treating "Earth" as referring to the planet rather than to soil.)

Arms of the Valley.

A badass name for a level if I ever heard one. If anybody asks, Razzorman came up with it.

Update! See the first post.
I added a little info on the story, and I need help with images for the cut scenes. If you are interested, post here or PM me. Not any more. CPW is drawing the cut scenes. :)

Sorry to double post, but its screenshot time. :D
I just realized how bland and boring most of the screens in the level were, so I decided to brush up the graphics a good bit.
What do you think?

I dunno looks a little plain to me seeing as how that tileset is used in a lot of levels, there almost nothing I haven't seen made with that tileset

It is? I have only played five or so levels with that tileset, and I have 32 pages of levels. O_o
Well, I hope it doesn't matter too much though. After all, it is supposed to look a little dull.

I have three different KS folders, for whatever reason, and cumulatively probably 40 pages.

While the tileset isn't exactly overused, it's so simple and default that every time it's used, it makes you feel like, "Oh. This tileset again."

I feel this way about basically all the default tilesets. A few of them (eg 1, 9, 13) just get used massively often, and some of the others are just so weird that they can't really be used effectively, especially when put next to other tilesets (eg 16, 17, 81).

Like the very last one (255) which is obviously just there to make the point of being the last one.

81 wierd?

It is called the 256th tileset party.

Not weird so much as difficult to use, since there aren't any tilesets that it can transition into smoothly, and the general style of the tileset doesn't fit in with most others. (This isn't a bad thing, just awkward.)

I'm sorry I haven't updated for a while, but I have been making some great progress. The level is almost done. I only have the last area and the art for the cut scenes left on my to do list.
I need a few beta testers to make sure its all working properly. If you are interested, post here or send me a PM. :)

You are right, i never saw someonme using that lego tileset (60) or that hover thing (67) or the galaxy (141) and 144,157,175,183 if that matters.

Sure, go ahead. :)

Edit: Screw it. I'm getting way too frustrated with this project to ever finish it. I have been working on it for over a year, and I never get anywhere because I always get new ideas and try to change things.
As it is now, the level is too much of a mess to work on, and trying to polish it into something enjoyable would be very hard, and it still wouldn't be good in the end.
I'm abandoning this.
I'll put up the beta on knyttlevels if anyone wants to try it out.
