Like a Niffchat ][: Fubaka Boogaloo, if you get my drift.

Also, Discord is a free web service that is basically a combination of Skype and Teamspeak, but without any of the ads or premium services (so far)! It sounds too good to be true, and... it is, BUT it's actually true for once! Basically how Discord chatrooms work is that there's a text chat on the right side of the screen, and a voice chat on the left side. People can be just typing in the text chat, or be talking in the voice chat, or both. It's a good Skype alternative that's good for hanging out with groups of friends. Try Discord for free here!

The reason I made this topic is that I'm TIRED of the IRC chat being less active than an old forum from 2002. I'm thinking a new chat service can help rejuvinate the chat community at least somewhat. Plus we'll be able to talk to each other via voice, so that'll be cool! (And maybe even collab on levels together!!)

I'm not much of a chat person, but if you decide to give this a shot, I might pop in every once in a while. Not exactly fond of voice chat though, especially since I can't speak English to save my life :P2

I already use Discord for various other chats, so a Niffchat moved over to there would be incredibly convenient for me!

I don't honestly mind this idea, but it's worth pointing out that part of the reason the nifflas chat is quiet is because this forum is quiet. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not the fault of the medium used to chat- it's just the fault of not many people using it or talking when they do bother. The discord chat can (but doesn't have to) fall into the same.

I'm hopefully gonna try to keep the chat semi-active once I make it. (I'm on Discord most of the time anyways, so.)

I doubt it will help. As BloxMaster points out, the forum itself is not that active and it has been like this for some time now. We've tried a few things in the past, for example a steam group, but its plain obvious, people are doing the forum next to actually having a life and just don't have time to chat anymore. The only way to get activity in the IRC chat, is if there are things organised to take place so people feel the need to gather around in an IRC chatroom.

I don't have time to organize this kind of events, so honestly I think this will not last long. I will not be joining this discord chatroom myself for the simple reason that I just don't have enough time. I am on IRC due to that I am still active as a remixer for SlayRadio (C64 remixes) and there are bi-daily shows there. My IRC account allows me to be in several rooms at the same time and my bouncer means that I remain active even while my pc is turned off, so I can read the chatlog and see when the channel was active when I come back and if it happens to be active as I am behind the pc, actually join in the chat. Also if someone mentioned my name on IRC I do get a notification of it either while I'm behind my computer or when I come back.

It wouldn't hurt to try.

So I'm gonna do sort of a "test run" of a Discord server and I'll open it up and see how active it is. If it goes inactive for a while, then I'll shut it down.

Join the room here.

Hopefully it gets at least semi-active!

Okay -- I'm gonna leave the chat up for a couple more days until I shut it down. Only two people have joined and it's the definition of inactive.

I'll keep it up for longer if it somehow gets more active, though.

There are currently 7 members in there, mostly always there. If someone chats at a moment that I'm around I will definitely chime in, as will others.
