Title: Myoelectric arm
Post by: PONTO on April 14, 2009, 19:22:44
There is this little something I and four more people developed at university.
Basically, it's a LEGO arm controlled with muscular signals (myoelectric signals). Took us a hell lot of time and I thought some of you might like to see it. :)

cool :P
Could you possibly make a support system so you can build on something that looks like a real arm?
It would be awesome

We didn't have the means, knowlege or time to build an actually applicable prosthesis, looking like an arm that could be implemented into a pacient, so we chose to simply demonstrate how such a system would work. This is our final result, we won't be working on it anymore. Besides, this was already very demanding and time consuming and we're still just second degree students. I think what we managed to accomplish was already very good.

I'm sure you now want to cut off an arm just to get to use a myoelectric prosthesis...
:P

We even gave it a name! :)
We called it ArtUR (Artur is the Portuguese equivalente of Arthur.), which stands for "Articula??o Unidireccional Rob?tica" (Portuguese for "Unidirectional Robotic Articulation").

We also thought the idea was nice because it sort of seems like it is pulling the sword from the stone... He's very strong, you know?... XD
