Title: How big is your KS directory?
Post by: pfrangip on February 20, 2013, 04:26:31
I'm just wondering, because I checked mine recently to back it up and it turns out that I have about an 800mb KS folder counting all of the various user levels. My goal is to reach a gigabyte. I should note that I only keep levels that I like enough to try and beat... I delete broken or bad levels.

So how big is your personal KS archive?

Mine's 1.72 GB, though I have another collection of older levels on a removable hard drive.

I can't check it now, but I remember that on my old computer... There was over 36 "pages" of levels.

Was there another topic similar to this one before? I feel like I remember something of the sort, with googoogjoob reigning with hundreds of pages of levels or sommat.

Maybe, but I'm new to the community. I've been playing KS for years, but I only just started posting in the forums. (I just wanted to say GOOD JOB! to my favorite level developers.)

I remember it too, but couldn't find it.

The max number of level pages I've reached was probably 20; after that I realized the menu had become too slow to load, so I started deleting levels. After a PC change I took the habit of only keeping levels I thought I could eventually replay.

I've got a 1.66GB world folder in my main install, 214MB in the one I use to test levels before deciding whether to keep them permanently and 151MB in the one I use for levels I was considering translating or re-localising. I've also got 115MB in KSA-exclusive levels, 149MB for KSEx and a few hundred KB shy of 50MB for KS+.

2.28GB total then, but there's probably one or two hundred MBs of levels I won't decide to keep in the end.

I've got 3,75 GB for KS, 3,98 GB for KS+ and 252 MB for KSEx. However, I am keeping  collection of custom tilesets, gradients and music in the KS data folder, so this makes most of it's size. I don't keep levels which I am not gonna to replay, but I have about 18 pages of levels in KS+ and KS. I started to save levels into KSEx, so it will grow soon.

Woah, how long have you been collecting levels? That's nearly as big a hoard as Goog had!

Most of it are not levels, but custom stuff (I download some level which is not very good but contains some custom things free to use, so I grab them and delete the level). Only level  which no one other has are some old Czech levels from fan's page which is down for several years. Only one of them is really bugless and worth playing, but it contains copyrigt songs (Listen to my heart and Czech and German version of Maya the bee). I wish I can re-upload it.

Can I bend the topic a bit and ask why some of you are keeping separate libraries for KS mods? If so, then why some of you are keeping separate libraries for KS mods?

I do it because I'd rather not have my KS+ folder clogged up with the dozens of pages of basic KS levels I keep. I also use a different standard when deciding whether to keep a level that requires a mod to play (i.e. If it's for a mod it gets kept regardless) so I prefer not to have some of them in the install I use when I want to play KS but don't have a preference for which level.

I'll probably upgrade my main KS folder to KS+ once the latter's definitely finished but I'll still not combine them. Scratch that; it's been a while since I played a lot of KS so I forgot about the main reason it's staying so fragmented. My AV software freaks out at KS+, KSEx and ACO; I haven't been able to succesfully whitelist them because it's stdrt.exe that it has an issue with :/

My new KS world folder is 1.89 GB. (and I expect more)
My old KS is about 393 MB.

Like pfrangip, I delete bad and broken levels too and keep interesting levels and levels which I'm playing more often or other levels which are good to me. :D

Jesus. My entire nifflas folder is 670 Mb, and that includes Saira, FiNCK, Night Game, Wadf, Knytt Stories, The Great Work, and all the nano games.
You guys are crazy.
Then again, I do have 800 mb of levels from the "epic level dump" ...

I only have 50 levels. C)

I should probably grab that epic level dump at some point.

840mb. And my Nifflas folder is 1gb.
Darn you, level dump!

1.66GB subtract 763MB (duplicates due to having the same worlds in both a regular folder as well as a KS+ folder).

So ~900mb of levels.  Of which I've played through almost all of them (still getting around to Dark Sky 2, The Tree of Life, and The World is Changing).

Another 200mb can be found on one of my usb's on which I do all of my level editing.

Editing on a USB? Always been painfully slow in my experience.

Once you get the stuff copied over, the changes to the files are small so a usb actually works better. (With it being flash and all vs a disk)

Maybe this will help someone who wants their KS directory less cluttered.

I only have 4 levels in my directory right now. I do keep almost all levels I download though. This is done by have the categories "Categorized" and "Pending". Categorized contains levels I have played (or tried to play), and also contains sub-folders for meh levels and awesome levels. Awesome levels get to be both in main "Categorized" folder and in the awesome sub-folder.

The folder "Pending" contained most levels I downloaded but haven't played yet, but I discontinued using it because I didn't want to have such a  big backlog of levels. I'm keeping it for now in case my internet connection goes down and I want levels to play.

The total file size for levels I have played or tried to play is around 880 Megabytes.

Screenshot edited with Paint to hide name.

4.42GB :D
3.95GB 2.95GB of Worlds (with a few duplicated there), the rest is mostly levels I happened to download, but haven't installed. I have 16 pages of levels because I was lazy and haven't moved them into appropriate folder (great/good/done/bad).

Only one of them is really bugless and worth playing, but it contains copyrigt songs (Listen to my heart and Czech and German version of Maya the bee). I wish I can re-upload it.
You should! What's stopping you?

Here's unpacked one: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44735333/ks/KSExForBadAV.rar
Extract it into KS Ex folder, add all files into AV exceptions and run Knytt Stories\KSExForBadAV\RunKSEx.bat.

400mb, I used to have more but I deleted a lot of levels I didn't think I would play again.

1,5 GB (about 150 downloaded levels).

Oops, that's actually 2.94 GB. Perhaps duplicates aren't that few as well. The folders with finished levels weigh only 2 GB. The rest 1 GB has a fair share of duplicates.
1.11 GB of everything that's not levels, mostly KS Ex versions.
