Title: Blah songs with Nifflas kit!
Post by: Jo.7 on September 19, 2012, 20:49:05
Hey,

I'm just here to show off my Blah songs that I've been making with FL. I think I downloaded the kit somewhere in 2010(?) and I've been using it ever since, it has been real fun! I've been using the bells, bass and hi-hats mostly + the drums are obviously Superior Drummer, which I think sound unreal with Nifflas stuff. I don't know what genre this is supposed to be and I don't care to talk about it as long as its sounds good to my ear! =D

I haven't posted this anywhere yet or to anyone except for my buddies. I don't know if there is anyone interested in this kind of a stuff, whatever kind it is, so I've really had no reason to post it anywhere, it has just been for my own ears mostly.

I appreciate taking the time to hear a sample of anything, its nice to see some growing bandcamp stats, if you know what I mean  http://joseiska.bandcamp.com/album/vortex (http://joseiska.bandcamp.com/album/vortex) (URL Updated 3.2.2017)

Hello fellow New Zealander! I enjoyed listening to your music a lot. Something feels off about the mastering that I can't put my finger on. Is there an unusually high amount of compression or reverb or anything?

Hey there! You are correct, my brother was teasing me about it. There is quite a lot of compression (and a bit too much reverb to be honest), especially within the drums. I know it's not for everyone!

I'm surprised to see you noticed all that, I guess you actually listened to something C)p I will try something softer for the next installment! Thanks for the comment.

I like your music too. It reminds me of WaDF. You should try more samples.

It's Nifflas's Dist Sine C1 in the "Synth Basses" folder, with some tweaks.

Wow!!!  Nice job.  These are some really kickass tracks.  You've got a lot of talent!  Your friends are idiots if they don't listen to this stuff.  My friends don't listen to my stuff either, though it might just be because it sucks  X)

I'm really impressed though.  These tracks all have a really strong style and sense of authorship to them.

I use Fruity Loops as well, though I haven't heard of Superior Drummer.  The percussion in your songs is definitely really nice and strong so I looked it up.  It's a bit out of my price range at the moment though haha :P

I did notice a few tracks sounded a tiny bit squashed, presumably due to the compression.  Just might be one of those things to watch out for.  I thought the reverb was fine though.  I'm a mastering newb though so be careful taking anything I say to heart :]

I wonder what you might think of this song (https://soundcloud.com/ultimatewalrus/star-mites) that I did a while back (also using some Nifflas samples)?  I'm concerned about the mixing/mastering since I'm still really new to it and it's such a fine-tuney thing to get the hang of.

---edit---

Mr Fish, your song's really cool as well!  It has a nice feel to it.  The percussion was really good.  It'd be perfect for some sort of adventure game, I can imagine climbing a mountain and overlooking a huge expanse hearing this.  My only suggestion, especially for listening to the song on its own, is that it might have been nice to play around with the chord progression a bit, if you can find a nice way to segue out of the current four-measure pattern.

Haha, I guess its the fact that your own stuff tends to sound good most of the time. While time passes by, my older "songs" obviously don't sound as good as they once used to.

It's hard getting the raw samples to sound like its meant to be there. I used some of Fruity Loops Multiband Compressor for the Mixer Master, changing that will make the sound much more real I think. Your song sounds very video game'ish. The fact that its not overkilled by any compressor is a good thing.

Thanks for taking the time to listen some and for the criticism, that's what I need!
