Title: [Project] Night
Post by: Wanderer on April 05, 2009, 01:30:20
Now, the title for my game may seem all too similar to Night Game. It isnt really similar to NG in game play, the closest I could say this game is related to of Niff's works is the Knytt series. Night involves a mysterious man exploring his world trying to find the Light Piece to restore daytime to his homeland. He will travel across the land looking for clues as to the where-abouts of the Light Piece. Once it is found, light and happiness will be restored.

This post will be updated regularly with Night game information. Please leave your comments about this project here.

[April 5, 2009] Soron suggested using gradients with my graphics, but I am terrible at things like that. So, just like the music, just offer yourself up and I'd greatly appreciate the help. Like with the music, any help will be mentioned in the credits.

[April 4, 2009] I am in need of good ambient music, I have some picked out from Nifflas's creations, but I would like people to show my their works or ones that they admire.

I can do some ambient breaks music when I get back home, if you'd like.
Or, if that's not what suits you, I could try out doing some drone.

Anyway, it looks like a rather drab game. :S

Those screens really do look pretty dull, and the plot sounds rather cliched. (Of course, maybe there's some twist in-game that makes the plot better, or subtle movement not captured in those screens that makes them less dull, or something.)

@Kasran Sure! I'd love anything ambient. Could you make something similar to this work of Nifflas's? http://niffpage.greywool.com/files/Music/Winterscapes/Nifflas%20-%20Winter%20Dreams.mp3

@goog Yes there is some small movement. Like the stars flicker slightly. The grass sways to and frow. And in the first screen, the part without grass is water. It moves up and down, which I think looks realistic. If you character enters the water, his movement is slowed. And yes i know the story is a bit cliche, if anyone is willing, I'd love suggestions to make it more interesting.

...... random?
How about you add some gradient tones to the blocks and the grass.
Grass should have a dark green gray and the earth should fade from dark green gray quickly to black.
The sky should start light dark blue at the bottom and gradually become light with stars in it.

I like the storyline a bit but it's um?

That's a lot your expecting of a person you can't even draw gfx. I'd need someone to help me on that. But the earth should fade? I'm using blocks so that might be kind of hard. So if someone's willing, I'd greatly appreciate the help if they volunteer. But otherwise, I probably won't do it. sorry Soron.

Oy Wanderer, I could help with the backgrounds and tilesets If you sent me them to edit.
It would be simple since I have the programs.

@Knytt It doesn't use tilesets technically. If you meant Knytt style tiles, in a set. No it does not, but it does use a tileset, but not any peculiar format. I just make my objects into tiles so it's easier to design levels with. If you want to help with designs for tiles I'd appreciate it. Most of them are 32x32 pixels. Some are larger to make it more realistic.

@Kasran It's being made in good ol' MMF2D.  C)

@Soron If you're willing you can help. If I have people help me with the gfx, and music, I could focus more time on the engine, and how the game will be played.  :^^:

Is it ok if I post the gfx as a library from MMF, and let anyone edit them? I'm going to the mall, if I hae no answer before I get back, I'll just post the gfx as a library from MMF.

as long as we can edit them with gimp, paint.net, windows paint etc... that's fine.

So you would rather have it as a sprite sheet so it's accessible for everyone?

yeah, that would be fine.

Here's the simplest of the tiles, later I'll upload the ones with animations later if I'm not lazy, and if I get my schoolwork done. :P

so this is your tileset  :^^:?
It's a bit small but I could edit it easily  :P2

I was hoping for something which was more laid out with a larger choice of tiles to edit....
Can you organize it like Nifflas did with his tileset template?

So you would want me to organize it like Nifflas does?
