Title: Steam version
Post by: gio9sig551 on January 23, 2011, 18:53:13
Like the title.. There will be a steam release of this game?

Maybe with the steamworks features in it!

Nicalis has said that there will not be. WiiWare, however, is still possible.

Is it only possible now?

Something tells me their ideas aren't very well-planned..

For computers only --> just kidding, only wiiWare --> just kidding, both platforms --> lol no wiiWare afterall

Let me take a minute to compile a huge list of reasons why that makes sense, even though I don't think it does.

Out of curiousity, where'd you pull this one from?

Having plans and them not working out exactly as planned (due to unexpected events) isn't the same as not being well-planned either.

I took possible as not definite..
I guess well-planned isn't really what I meant, that has a more negative connotation..
Somewhat shifty?
I didn't mean it offensively.. just sort of playfully annoying. :)

Ah. Wasn't aware that Feryl's an official Nicalis spokesperson or something. X)

You never know..
But I'll take your word for it :P

The info I gathered was from Nicalis' Twitter. Hasn't been a word about WiiWare in a while, but last I heard they were going to analyze how it does on PC before deciding.

To get something on steam you have to be able to integrate the steamworks stuff into the code. You can't do that with MMF AFAIK. Therefore it'd have to be in C++ or other 'languaged' form (ie. post port to wiiware) before it'd be viable, even if steam wanted it (and they have a lot of control).

Saira made it to Steam and it was also built in MMF2. :S

And on top of that, Jamie is currently building the C++ version. Its up for testing even.

Congrats to you!  Steam = more sales = good for you.  I'm not sure how much you're allowed to say due to NDA stuff but would you mind sharing about the process to get this on Steam?  What made them change their minds?

I'm assuming things were a bit different this time around considering that you're working with Nicalis but I thought I'd ask.

Nicalis also announced this last night on Twitter:

Did you already get NightSky on Steam? Yes, as in NightSky is now available on Steam!

I bought the game before it was on steam. Is there anything between the non steam version and the steam version? Did they add anything?

There's been no mention of steam-exclusive features or levels, to the best of my knowledge. The entire practice is pretty "un-Nifflas-like" aswell, I'd be very surprised if there was anything like that.

The versions are identical.

Any way I can attach my non-Steam version to steam? I mean a proper attachment as if I had purchased it, not just adding it as a "non steam game"

You can buy it. But as far as I know, Steam doesn't offer a way to attach a license code to steam itself so you can download and install the game. If this is possible, please let me know too, because I actually have bought a game I already own in steam at a discount because I'd like to have it in steam too.

as far as I know, there's an option to "redeem" games you bought elsewhere when they're out on steam too, but that requires a special serial key which the publishers give you. at least that's how it was with the indie bundles, so yeah. I guess not?

Did a bit of searching. This might be the solution: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5414-TFBN-1352

Apparently you can do this but only for a small selection of games. (See this list (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601)) and they don't go for indy games at all.

Basically, you cannot transfer your license to steam for Nifflas' games because Valve doesn't support it.

that's what I was talking about, I think.
