Title: Mafia - Over

I thought I might try to start another game of Mafia.  :)

Game Basics:

In the day the townspeople all talk and vote on a player to lynch.
Then at night, the evil mafia decide who to kill.
Chaos ensues  >).

The Mafia win when they outnumber or equal the townspeople.
The Town win when all the Mafia are dead.

I will create the setup based on how many people are willing to play. Then I will tell you the roles.

Please note that the rules are not exactly the same as the ones usually used here.

Rules:

1. The mafia may talk at night only using PM's to decide their kill. No-one else is to use PM's for mafia or to talk about the game outside this thread!

2. Lynching requires a majority of votes. Once the majority has been reached, the person is lynched.

3. It is preferred that you vote in this format vote:Budja. If you want to take your vote of a player you may unvote.

4. Once you are dead, no more posting in this thread.

5. Do not quote any messages you are sent from me in the game. Also using screenshots, hidden texts, etc is not allowed.

6. No posting in this thread at all during the night stage.

If anything is unclear or you think I have missed something, Please PM me.

I was generally confused by the first post, so I copied this from the old forum. Will this game have the same roles as the old one?

1.Sometime before the game begins, I will PM you your identity. You will not know the identity of anyone else, with the exception of if you're a Mafia - in that case you'll learn the identity of the other Mafia members too. Here are the possible identities (although I will normally refer to every player as a 'citizen' to not spoil the identity):

The Host
That is me. I don't participate in the game, I'm simply all-knowing, I always speak the truth, runs the game, and informs about the rules.

The Good
The goal for the 'good' citizens is to kill the members of the Mafia. If all members of the Mafia is dead, the good ones win!

Innocent
I will assign this identity to most citizens.

The Detective
I will assign this identity to one citizen. The detective can investigate one citizen each night, in order to find out the person's true identity.

The Doctor
I will assign this identity to one citizen. The doctor will chose a citizen to protect each night. If the Mafia tries to kill that specific citizen during that night, the doctor will prevent it.

The Bad
The goal for the bad citizens is to kill the good ones. When only the bad ones remains, they win!

The Don
I will assign this identity to one citizen. As the name implies, the Don is the leader of the Mafia. Each night the Don will let me know who to kill, and how the citizen should be killed. The Don also communicates with the other Mafia members through PM's (or any other method of choice), and takes suggestions about who to kill, and of course how.

Mafia Member
I will assign this identity to either one or two citizens (you'll not know the exact number). The Mafia members talks with the Don and makes suggestions about who to kill and how. If the Don is killed, one of the other Mafia members will take over the leadership and become the new Don. Also, if one of the members feels that the Don is totally ignoring him/her, the member can at any time PM me and tell me to kill the Don and take over the leadership. This is a last way out - normally you do NOT want to do this, since you'll be killing a strong ally.

The Suicidal Traitor
I will assign this identity to one citizen. This is the strangest role in the game. The suicidal traitor does not know the identities of the Mafia, and nor does the Mafia know the identity of the traitor. However, (s)he specifically wants the Mafia to win. Like the Detective, the suicidal traitor can also investigate one citizen each night, in order to find out the person's true identity.

2.This game takes place in nights and days.

Each night, the board will remain silent, and everything will happen through PM's.


All the innocents will just wait (if you didn't get a PM from me about your identity, your identity is 'innocent').
The Mafia picks who to kill, and describes how kill their victim. The Don will PM me that information.
The detective and the suicidal traitor will through PM let me know who to investigate.
The doctor will let me know who to protect.

To prevent cheating, I do actually allow anyone who take part of this game to wake up even during the night and 'make phonecalls' (send PM's to each other), and reveal (or of course; lie about) their identities. By this reason, if someone PM's you and says "Hey, I'm the detective/doctor", don't be too sure the person is speaking the truth no matter how convincing the PM appears to be. This is not a game of honesty!

3.Each morning, every citizen except one will wake up. Those who are still alive should begin to discuss with each other in the 'current event' thread (not this one) about who the Mafia are. Analyze the description of the murder, and keep in mind that it's the Mafia who came up with it. There are citizens that might know a thing or two about who the Mafia is (the detective for example) or isn't.

When the discussion have been going on for a while, I will attempt to chose two main suspects based on who people suspect in the actual discussion. If I can't get a clear overview, I'll open a poll about it later. In either case, it's a good idea to appear as innocent as possible - because before this day is over, someone will end up in the electric chair. Feel free to tell/lie about your identity as much as you want!

To those who dies: You shouldn't participate in the discussions or vote in polls as you're dead, but when two or more are dead, I'll open a "ghost discussions" thread where you can chat about the current events! You can still tell or lie about your identity in this thread. Remember that you still win if your 'side' does, even if you're dead.

4.In the court, two suspects are announced.

Nobody is allowed to speak before the suspects have posted something.

They have the right to hold one speech, in order to defend themselves. They must make no further posts.

When both the suspects has posted something, it's up to the rest to decide who to send to the electric chair. You're allowed to make one reply, containing the name of the one you want to be sentenced to death.

5.You can at any time (night or day) write PM me either a public note that everybody will see (except that they can't see who it comes from), or a private note (an anonymous note to a specific person).

MAFIA


Rules
(must read!!)

Every night, each role PMs me the target of their actions. The Mafia also confer about who to kill and then contact me. During the day, everybody start shouting and pointing at each other. Eventually, a public vote occurs and the unlucky fellow with the most votes is sent to be killed with a pair of baguettes and a monocle.   

Roles

Mafia

• Spy: During the night, may learn the role and allegiance of a person. This ability is used every night. The Spy doesn't know who the mafia members are and vice versa.
• Member: The Spy and the Members together decide on who to kill each night.The mafia roles know each other. Ideally there will be 2 of these.

Innocents

• Vigilante: May kill any person during the night. This ability can be used only once.
• Investigator: The Investigator may see a player's role and allegiance. This ability is used every night.
• Guard: The Guard may protect a person from lethal attacks during the night, but not against investigations from spies. This ability is used every night. If the Guard uses his ability on himself and is targeted by the mafia on the same night, then he survives but loses his ability to protect.
• Doctor: The Doctor may protect a person from a lethal attack during the night. This ability can be used only once.
• Citizens: Have no special abilities. Ideally there will be 4 of these.

Win Conditions
The Mafia win if they outnumber the Innocents.
The Innocents win when all the Mafia are dead.

If you are interested in joining the game PLEASE SEND ME A PM. Before sending a PM to me though, please answer these questions to yourself:
Will you be an active player, by not abandoning this game half way through?
Do you have an internet connection and a lifestyle that allows you to spend some time on the thread of the game every day, for the next week or two or three?
Did you really tell the truth back there?
If the answers are "Yes, YES, YEEEEAAAAHHHSS!!!!" then you are crazy, but also eligible to play.

Oh and remember, Mafia is a game of lies, deceit, double-bluffing, triple-bluffing, double-crossing and ingenuity. There is no cap on what you may do to convince who you think is the Assassin Leader to kill who you think is the Murderer Sidekick. Communication is key which will open the door to success. False communication is the dynamite which will blow the door open.

I am very interested to hear comments and all.

I would like to have 11-13 players in this game.

Since we generally have trouble filling the game, I won't create the setup/roles yet. Yes, the roles will be similar/same and I will put them in the first post before it starts.

The rules are partly different from the old forum.

Night and Day are stages in the game. Day ends when someone is lynched by the town and then at night, special roles like Investigators, Mafia have "night actions" like investigations or kills. After I have recieved all actions, its day again.

Repeat until a team wins.

But mafia is about trickery. Not permitting talk within the townsfolk will lead to random lynching: without communication, no vote pool can be formed and players must figure out by themselves. Even if they do talk publicly on the thread, the mafia can immediately see who the threat is and eliminate them.

You will have to communicate in thread. Whether you lynch randomly or not is up to you players but if the town really want to win they are going to have to talk, discuss together who they suspect and why. They are going to have to watch voting patterns.
Town power roles are going to have to be a lot more careful too because if they reveal themselves, everyone will know.

Ok, due to numbers to make it fair, we have a day-start.

Yet again, the mafia have returned to the oh so lucky town of Jorvik. Last night, the town major was found dead and it is clear that some of the townsfolk are to blame. Now it is your job to remove this evil threat from your town. It is time to point fingers at your suspicious neighbors. The town meeting has begun!

This makes me think that Salmoneus cant be patner of Koromi, so the mafia can be Koromi or Salmoneus or no one at all  :P2

NESGamer crept along the street. He had chosen his target, a small house halfway down the street.

He softly approached the window and peered in. What he saw no-one will ever know as he was grabbed from behind and was never seen again.

NESGamer, Investigator, killed Night 1.

Hmm, isn't it strange that both times, LL and Shawnachu have voted for the same person, and that Shawnachu voted ca 2 minutes after LL (as he also did last time)? It's partially LL's fault that a townsperson got lynched.

As the town went to bed that night, they were very worried, it would take a miracle to save them...

Endgame

That night, the town was worried. Igiari stayed up, unwilling to go to bed. After all if he did he might never get up again.

As morning approach, his eyelids drooped and he fell asleep in his chair. He was found there the next morning, brutally stabbed.

Igiari, Townsperson, knifed Night 2.

That morning, everyone got up again to decide on a lynch. Firecat and
Purple Pineapple noticed that Salmoneous and Shawnachu had a strange glint in their eyes.
The towns luck had run out...

Firecat, One-shot Vig, endgamed

Shawnachu, Mafia Member and Salmoneous, Mafia Roleblocker have won!

NES investigated Shawnachu and Shawnachu killed NES on the same night.

If the mafia hadn't targeted NES, it could have been a very different game.

Salmoneous never sent me a target to roleblock, but never needed to anyway.
