Title: |Environmental psychological horror| - Sallience
Post by: HeyLookItsASpah on December 21, 2010, 00:01:18
Alright, I started on this a looong time ago, and found it while snooping around my Hard drive... I'm gonna start working on it again...
Basically, It's a VERY environmental game, with psychological horror elements in, too.
I'm taking some pointers from the trilby series, if you know what that is ;).
Right now, I've got only 1 ambient song, and a mid - sized world... It's only a bit where you get to explore around.
Anyway, screenies, I have them.

Here are some screens of the three environments I have so far (Check attachments)

Any updates will be posted in this thread.

Off-topic, Does anyone know what the best color for "Transparency" is?
Right now I'm just using 1% opacity for the transparency, but it's kinda noticeable...

Looks very awesome, I'll be waiting for the finished version! Also, if you're using GIMP or a similarly advanced editor, you should look into alpha channel editing for transparency; if you're using something else like MS Paint, you can use magenta (255,0,255).

Oh, and remember, this is an extreme alpha - even more artsy stuff will come in later...  8)

Yeah, I was using gimp, but I can't go 100% transparency, or KS will give me an error...
Now I have Photoshop, I'll be looking into how to use it for this, and see if it works any better.

KS gives an error if there's a whole tile completely transparent other than the top left tile. if it's just parts of tiles, it should work just fine.

Looks nice. The first screen especially.

I use Gimp without trouble. I agree with Miss Paula's prognosis.

I just use Microsoft photo editor for setting transparencies.   I know its old and kinda crappy but it works perfectly for my purposes.   I just use a single color for background then set it to transparent when ready.

Small update:
I haven't been working on this much due to my graphics card being out of wack, but I did draw a small level design, and worked more on the story.
1 more song finished, too.

Cool, though I hope your gfx-card isn't terminal. I'm really looking forward to seeing this level, the screenshots look gorgeous.
Even the sky alone is really appealing, somehow, aswell as the thickly-banded gradient on the floating islands.

Can you open the door in the first screenshot and enter the hollow island? That would be pretty cool (not that it isn't already)!

Wow, sorry for the (really really) late reply, I stopped working on this when my external harddrive crashed after the first few times. I'll be starting up on a remake sooner or later, this time including actual chiptunes (which I've learned to make over the past 8 or so months), and a revised storyline. I had a few ideas in the first version which aren't going to make the cut (custom AI enemies and the sorts), buut I'll work something out. Anyway, I'm not exactly sure when I can start up working on this again, but when I do, hopefully it'll be worth it.

Not sure if I can make an actual opening animation, but I probably can get put a teleport into the island.

Glad to hear this level is still alive. I will start looking forward to it again.
