Title: Your favourite level and Why? (out of plain curiousity)
Post by: Strange Darkness on March 31, 2009, 00:23:15
Well this is just because im curious bout people answers (yes, yes i know curiousity killed the cat but im a dog so it doesn't matter)

Either your favourite level (just one) or your top 5
I know there are many levels but just say the ones you have played so far

so lets begin:  C)p
My Favourite level would have to be A Walk at Night hands down
the reason why is because it has a simple layout that delivers the most out of it, the music is just pure masterpiece and the story line is simple. If you play this at night, the effects double.

So what level do you like?

Do my own levels count? X)
Actually, my favorite is definitely Gaia. It's just huuuuge and beautiful.

I've played hundreds of levels, and I can't possibly narrow it down to one.

There are thousands of levels; I doubt anyone's played them all. Except for maybe ^. :P

To googoogjoob - maybe your top 3?

To purple pinapple - just comment on the ones you have played so far

mmmm maybe i should edit my first post to make it a bit more open  :^^:

Momruoy's "Infestation"

EDIT: Well, this level is my favorite for a few reasons. First of all, the graphics are really good the atmosphere really fits. Second, there's great music. It might be copyrighted, I don't know, but still. Finally, the difficulty is hard to very hard... that might discourage some people from playing it...

My favorite is KG's Teenhmifnoeafgil. :O
...why? it was big (someone said it's the biggest level ever made) and you get to fight a certain someone if you try for the best ending, also the music was mostly cool and unfamiliar-sounding, I'm not sure if KG made the music though, and it's really weird  which is also cool. But I don't think the boss fight will work so well with the new versions of KS. :/

My favorite is definitely Core by Fredrik Andersson. That is without doubt the best level ever made.

Edit
Not really, but it still pretty good.

I think that - if I had to pick a definitely favorite - it would be the original Frozen Mountain. That level is unthinkably brilliant. When you play it at first you WILL be confused beyond belief. You won't find the best ending. However, having played it probably over a hundred times and knowing all the secrets I can say that the design is absolutely ingenious. The level aesthetics are so well done. And it's still a delight to play even though I know it like the back of my hand. I very much salute Drakkan for that one.

I haven't played to many levels, but two of my most favourites are:

The Late Don't Eat the Mushroom:  It's great fun to play through purely because of it's randomness C)p (multiple endings are kinda cool too.)

The Machine: A little easy, but hugely fun because of it's scenery and general layout :). I'm sure nifflas designed it for newbies to get used to the game and see what they could do with the editor (it only uses teh standard music and tilesets.)

If I had to narrow it down (in alphabetical order of author name):

I think Core by Frederik Andersson is the best "normal" level; that is, it uses custom material very sparingly. Its environment is very well-constructed, and everything fits together.

Harvest by Farik is the best plot-oriented level, and it too has a coherent environment which expands over the course of the level. (If Noi ever finishes Etherworld, it would be strong competition for best plot level.)

Jerom's Knytt 8-bits is excellent at adhering to its concept. The screen layout and black-and-white thing are kept up from start to finish, and the level itself is very good at evoking the games it's inspired by.

Teenhmifnoeafgil by KG is very impressive in its sheer size and scope. The many endings all fit in, too.

Riku Island by Khodi is the best environmental level. It stays simple throughout, and it works.

The Life Ruby by RangerX sets a very high standard for custom levels; it's designed seamlessly and the graphics (and music) are uniformly excellent.

The Cube series of levels by TheRealTJ are the best puzzle levels yet.

There are, of course, many other fantastic levels: I've just listed the very best of the best here. Of course, all of this could change. As mentioned above, the Etherworld series could trump Harvest. (Maybe.) The Life Ruby really does set a high standard, and it might be a while before it's surpassed. I think the puzzle level has yet to be made. Challenge levels are very diverse, and I can't really choose an overall best.

Of all the levels I've played, there are some I love and some I hate, and then the rest fall somewhere in between- not good enough to be on my favorites list (or the top of the list, as here), but not bad enough for me to reasonably dislike (but of course, this isn't a least favorites topic).

Actually i like 3 levels and i can't decide the best of them:
Gaia by Anyndel and Drakkan: It's big, it's aswome and it's filled with mazes and endings. you will cry, you will laugh, and you will eat cookies
The great race by Bman: Another big level, it's great how you can select 2 endings in a part of the story, and i like...
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)
Travel east by Darktremor: First: it has hard puzzles and challenges.
Then its wierd, and i like wierd stuff  and third and last, it has a shoking plot at the very end, making it (supposedly) the first Knytt stories ever .

Much as I like custom levels, I can never quite like any of them as much as A Strange Dream.  In my opinion, that level is just perfect and I don't mean to exaggerate.  I still replay it often, much more so than any other level.

Sohe and the Rrokked Part 1 by Baroncid & Old_gil
Its a beautiful level and it has such an  "alien" feel to it, the music, the unusal tilesets, its just wonderfull, played it 6 times probably more  :P2

Its impossible to choose just one level :)

I've always loved "A Walk at Night" for sure, to me its the best environmental level. Medic Ted's "Psychedelic Adventure" is incredible, such a pity that he never released a sequel (but check out his unfinished "Brown Lands"). The world in that level just works so perfectly, and is so rich in detail. Oh, and the same goes for Elder's "Uthoha", although its much smaller and very different. Elder always displayed a talent for environments, pity most of his levels are so short and/or based on a single idea.

Then there are puzzles - Dukit's series ("3 Square", "4 Square", "Logic" and "Reason" - the latter is unfinished, I think) is amazing, like visiting the same place every few years to find how beautifully it changed. And this old level called "Rolly Scrolly" (or "Scrolly Polly"? seems like there were several versions; I'm talking about the one with 3 secret areas and 2 endings); a marvellous idea so well-realized that I played it many, many times after I completed it, simply to enjoy how perfectly it works.

There are also some "simply beautiful" levels, such as "Riku Island", and the unfinished "Island of Mimir" by Sinix, which is just stunning visually. I don't care much for the story in the first and the gameplay in the second, but they work very well for me nonetheless.

Then there are two authors in particular that have a very distinct sense of style, Farik ("The Hunt", "Harvest", "Ascension", etc.) and dessgeega ("The Lighthouse", "The Oubliette", "Torchlight", etc.). I don't particularly enjoy the latter's style, but its very, very distinct and well implemented. Farik's levels I always enjoyed. I hope he finishes "Homeland" one day.

Finally, although I don't like challenges or extra hard levels, but there's one that I enjoyed immensely, Klamrisk's "Room Ov Death". It seemed like hell the first time I played it (and at least one of the screens still does seem like hell), but I think its wonderful anyway.

(Sorry about ranting for so long )

Riku Island by Khodi is the best environmental level. It stays simple throughout, and it works.
+1.

I think Riku Island is my favorite level as well, for the same reasons; the environment is beautiful, and everything just fits.

It's actually called "Rolly Scrolly" in the editor (and the level file, and the folder in the Worlds folder), while "Scrolly Polly" is the name that shows up in KS itself and the World.ini file. There's only one version, as far as I know.

I'm going to change my mind and say that Farik - Ascension is my favorite level. It's the hardest best-looking fun level that I've beaten without cheating. (I got to the secret room in The Explore Challenge without cheating, but IMO Ascension looked better and was a lot more entertaining.)

Gaia... just Gaia... beautiful, Giant world... you spend forever just exploring the land mass you start out in, and then you find out it's only one continent of about... 4 or 5, and I still haven't reached anything that could look like an 'end.' Just... amazing, all around.

Nope, favourite i would classify as a level which you could play over and over and over again without getting bored or becoming too repetitive or a level that just seemed to blow you away something that isnt your favourite would be a game that is quite likeable...but....but   i'll think of something later  XD

The best level ever (to me) is Gaia 1.5 by Anyndel and Drakkan.  The endings were really creative and the world was huge! I really liked the pirate ship part.

2 other levels - these are also two favorites of mine - are Farik's "The Hunt" and "Harvest".  The tilesets were amazing and the stories were really fun! the last boss in "The Hunt" was a little bit creepy, though. :P2

Why? Its not a spoiler that the hunt has a boss battle.

It might count as one, since nothing hints at the boss battle prior to the battle itself. All other "bosses" are dealt with without direct violence.

Yes, but that boss has been mentioned several times outside the levels own topic. It souldn't come as a surprise to most people that there is one. At least, I can't see any reason to go all hush hush about it and put it in spoiler tags or whatever. Nobody ever did that concerning any other boss in any other level.

Wow, it's hard to choose. Personally, I love The mysterious grotto by Pumpkinbot. It has some really bizare, alien places to explore, and uses some neat tilesets. Bergsteigung by Teper is great too, probably the most beautiful level I've ever played. And I second The great race. It has a museum that teaches you more about the worlds, and contains an amazing shift sequence.

Spiral, by Bennity.
It's Very Hard, almost Lunatic IMO, but it doesn't lack save points and you don't get frustrated in the same way as you would in an impossible level. It's challenge after challenge, really hard, but very satisfying once you make it. This level helped me improve my skills very much!
I still love it.

Back when I wasn't very good at KS, that level was way to hard for me. Now that I've played a lot of very hards and a few lunatic, that level has become a sort of relaxing level to play when I'm bored or looking for a challenge.

EDIT: I didn't actually mean relaxing as in environmental.

I only recently kicked KS back up after a long absence. I didn't really give the game a proper go last time; I barely tried any custom levels but I'm making up for that now.

As for favourites, Colors and Marine at the moment, even though I've not finished the latter yet. Very much a personal opinion thing, since the biggest draw is that the difficulty in them is about perfectly matched to what I can manage without too much time endlessly respawning  :P That and the fact that they're both so polished.

I've also got a soft spot for both FMs since they're such good practice for me, though I've not made much headway (especially with the first...  :P)

i've even scoured the old forum (shhh) for levels that i missed the debut of...

I know I'm likely missing something really obvious but... where would I find the old forum?

Don't eat the mushroom by UncleSporky is a timeless classic and still not beaten as the most original level ever. It is genius troughtout the entire level and the many endings are just awesome which gives it a better replay-value than most levels.

If you want replay-value you should try Gaia.

Never tried gaia before. I said it has better replay-value then most levels, not better replay-value then all levels. I would anyway play detm 100 times rather than gaia 100 times so I think detm have better.

Not everyone enjoys environmental levels though  ;)

off course everyone enjoys environmental levels.

Knytt's Edge by 60FourMaster for the challenge (I must've failed a million times in that blasted infiltration level with the water platforming) and Gaia for the environment and the pure relaxing sense of exploration.

I'd like to submit as one of my favorite levels, Sky Flower. It's way too short, though maybe that's the charm. It's a beautiful level.

I already posted here, but you're always trying new levels!
Escape from juni's room (http://www.knyttlevels.com/levels/Razor%20-%20Escape%20From%20Juni%27s%20Room.knytt.bin) has a strange charm for me. If you were to look at it in a critical way, you would probably dislike it, but it's just charming to me. It's one of the few levels I like to replay. Maybe it's because it was my first third party KS level, but I just love it.

I'll update this post when I remember more levels.

The lava caverns (http://www.knyttlevels.com/levels/Mr%20Affu%20-%20The%20lava%20caverns.knytt.bin) is a fun little challenge that I also love to replay.

I find it completely impossible to narrow it down to one or even three or so. I think I might be able to narrow it down to something around ten levels, though. Don't have my list with me, though. But, would ten be okay?
Title: Re: Your favourite level and Why? (out of plain curiousity)
Post by: Hmpf on September 18, 2009, 00:37:08
Okay... in no particular order:

Caverns (bunnrey's, not any of the other levels of the same name)
Riku Island
Another Journey (yes, I prefer this to the famous Knytt on the Moon, if only by a small margin)
Temple of the Sun
Mashu Prapa
A Walk at Night
A Black Comedy
The Oubliette
Flipping Out
3 Square/4 Square/Logic/(Reason) - haven't actually finished the last one yet

Honorable mentions for levels I haven't finished yet but which I like a whole lot anyway:

Marine
LG-28

Honorable mentions for incomplete levels with a lot of promise:

Island of Mimir
Skyfalls
Homeland

Honorable mention for a level the look of which I love but which is far beyond my abilities:

Ascension

And there's a whole lot of levels which only very narrowly missed making it onto my shortlist.

My favorites:

Gaia (No brainer there.)

Dark Sky of Wish Mountain (Great level, has you explore every nook and cranny imaginable. The ending id kind of depressing, though.)

Don't Eat the Mushroom (Another no brainer. This level is made of pure and utter WIN.)

The Life Ruby

Lost in the Storm

I thought I'd revive this thread so that it came up on the first page of the KS board.. for a while, at least :) I've already posted here once:
http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=427.msg4656#msg4656

Since then, a couple of other levels came out that I was very happy to add to my favorites list:

[Maze] Dungeon - by Evangelos
http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1885.0
I absolutely love the atmosphere of this level. Everything fits together so perfectly, and I'm very willing to ignore minor inconsistencies here and there. I'm not even a fan of mazes, but this one was great.

[Challenge/Normal] A Knytt in Time - by egomassive
http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=2759.0
A lot of good things have been said about this level, even by people who have been here for a very long time. Very large, very complex, very rewarding, especially if you take your time and get the
Spoiler: (click to show/hide)

Also, special mention should go to ITA84's series (Temp I-IV), because it's so unique, abstract, and weird (all [Environmental/Easy]):

http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=802.0
http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1695.0
http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=2160.0

And I don't think I've mentioned Carn's Afterlife trilogy earlier, so I'm mentioning it now:
http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1546.0
These levels are hard to very hard, lunatic if you don't have enough experience. As a matter of fact, they're pretty much the only very hard levels I tried and enjoyed, because of the story. I was hooked literally from the very first screen of Paradise. Also, cats.

So there.
Title: Re: Your favourite level and Why? (out of plain curiousity)
Post by: ElleKore on February 25, 2010, 19:16:35
My favorite levels are..

Gaia by Anyndel & Drakkan
The Great Race by B-man
The End of Paradise, Escape from Pain & The Journey trough Bliss by Carn (trilogy)
An Underwater Adventure by Nifflas
The Life Ruby by Ranger X
Panacea by Vdweller

Not in order!

There were also some other levels I forgot.

Oh, and how could I forget my favorite level, Hravest by Farrik, it's just awesome..

Also, there was a level where you were revived to stop some big black tower that was sucking the life from the world, which I liked very much, I remember the level's name started with M. Anyone know it? I'd be happy to play it again :)

Oh and I'm new here. Hey  :D

I'd have to say:

They're all very interesting and nice on the eyes, not too much going on and great story lines!

Out of the 10 or 12 I've played, I'm gonna say A Strange Dream. It had the perfect difficulty, a nice, large world, a more engaging and believeable environment then The Machine, and a couple of "A-HA!" moments, when you figure something out. It was perfectly balanced, and a ton of fun.
I think I'm gonna go replay it.
Title: Re: Your favourite level and Why? (out of plain curiousity)
Post by: Hmpf on February 28, 2010, 02:37:03
Oh, yeah, I forgot to list that. Indeed, A Strange Dream is my favourite Nifflas level and one of my favourite levels to replay.

Some more that I either forgot to mention last time, or played since then:

- egomassive's A Knytt in Time (still haven't finished it, though)
- Razzorman's The Father's Son
- Diago: Oil
- Pick Yer Poison: Darkness
- VlachVania: The Phantom Apparatus
- Bligglenuber: The Deserted Rustyard
- Salmoneus: Flood
- Salmoneus: Organac
- Razzorman: Lost in the Storm
- Shawnachu: Natural
- Dandelion: Frozen Forest
- Pesty: Creepy Dinosaurs
- Farik: The Hunt (still haven't finished this)
- Drakkan & Anyndel: Gaia
- Pumpkinbot: The Mysterious Grotto

Awesome, but too hard for me:

- Ranger X: The Life Ruby
- Farik: Station Sputzna (actually, I may still manage that one - I just seem to have lost my way, somehow)
- Orion: A Walk to the Market (was that the title? I got stuck and haven't tried finishing it in a while. Or rather, I think I finished it, but only got the not-so-good ending or something? I don't remember...)

Lost in The Storm by Razzorman (I loved the knytt-like atmosphere)

Others I liked playing :

The Little Gothic Doll by Velvet
The Oubliette by Dessgeega
The Lighthouse by Dessgeega

Those I have not finished yet :

The Hunt by Farik

One which wasn't mentionned yet i dont think is Too Much Soda by KG, definitely one of my favourites. Others: The Great Race by the B Man, Vengeance by Bass, and Weird 2 by Nick the B. Oh and the most original ones were probably Dimensional jumper by ITA 84 and the marble challenge by Mr Li. Most of these are quite old so i dont know if you know them! Oh, and how could I forget 3 levels by Blue2Scripter!

Finished today:

Evangelos: Dungeon - definitely one for the favourites.

Not yet finished, but already worth a 'wow':

Jigganis: The Seashell - does some absolutely *amazing* things with default tilesets. I have a habit of screencapping favourite screens, and with this level, I'm accumulating screenshots like there's no tomorrow.

I've just replayed Riku Island, for maybe the fourth time or so, and I'm pretty sure now that it really is my favourite level. There are quite a few that come close to it in my affections, but none that sends me into quite the same kind of quiet bliss. I enjoy everything about that level -

Oh, yeah, Myst... This reminds me, I never finished the latest part of that series... hmm, I wonder if it works on my current computer...

But, back to Riku Island: Riku Island really makes me feel sorry I can't use blue skies in Falling Water. Grey, rainy weather also has its beauty, of course, but I really enjoy screens with skies in various shades of blue and green vegetation... Oh, and I also really like the sun ray effect in KS, but that, too, is something I can't use in KS, because my world's concept doesn't allow it. :-(

Grimwit: Underground

KG's Too Much Soda is great due to the game inside it.

I don't know about Favorite, but here are the one's a replay alot.

#5.Yggdrasil, by Fegon
#4.The Great Race, by B-Man
#3.Organic, by Salmoneous
#2.On the Tree Top, by Comhon
#1.A Walk at Night, by Quincent Cartographer

A walk at Night is, like, my all time favorite.  It's the one I keep going back to and holding down the 'a' key when I walk through it.  It's just pleasant to walk through and enjoy the atmosphere.  Bonus points if you find the great tree thing.

Other levels I play alot.
Gaia, by Drakkan
Under the Crack, by Dessgeega
Castle, by Dessgeega
The Forever Rain, by the Drowning Darkness
Don't Eat the Mushroom, by Uncle Sporky

Im just wondering. Can anyone recommend some easy, well-done, atmospheric, exploring levels? You know, like Gaia? I simply love those kinds of levels and hope to get to play more of them!

Great thread by the way. I've played through some of the mentioned levels, especially those that have been said multiple times.
<3 Knytt stories, so much variety, atmosphere, great music, i should probably stop talking now  :^^:

Oh, that one. That used to be my favourite level back when I had just started playing KS.
Nowadays, my favourite is probably one of Imaddo's levels, though which one is kinda hard to say. Other good levels:

-The Room Ov Death (Or what was it again?) by Klämrisk. Best simplistic level ever.
-Marine, by Jerome. It's just so big, and so well made challenging...
-Shipwrecked, by Egomassive. The storytelling rivals, or even outmatches Farik's Harvest.
Just really awesome, awesome custom music too.

Jerom -  Super Juniland
Kyodo -  Don't Stop Running
Grimwit - Cliff Hanger
RichardJ -  Snow Machine
Mystery Wolf -  Evil computer OF DOOM
Sean Bell -  Juni Goes Home

Some of the new / newly played levels:
plural - Hypnagogia - totally blew my mind. Unbelievably huge, non-linear and great all the way through. You gotta be prepared for the scale to play it though.
TJ - Cube(s) - are very cool, especially in that rear genre.
Raicuparta - Aperture Science
Raicuparta - Obey
Talps - Do Not Pick Up The Key
LordMarzog - Run the Gauntlet (both)
egomassive - The Dying Core
SecretGlitch - Dark Sea 2 - although the full version is still not finished.

Quite a large bundle of my favourites:

Monocromatica Grotta (B-Man)
The Great Race (B-Man)
The Lighthouse (Dessgeega) I don't often favour environmental levels at all, but this managed to tick the boxes somehow.
Shipwrecked (Egomassive)
The Dying Core [Beta version] (Egomassive) - Just to be awkward :P.
Venice Issue (gedzior84)
Return to Riku Island [Beta] (Kohdi) - Those few screens are beautiful.
A Strange Dream (Nifflas)
An Underwater Adventure (Nifflas)
Gustav's Daughter (Nifflas)
Skyflower (Nifflas)
This Level is Unfinished (Nifflas)
My Loving Hadron Collider (Talps) - I know, how arrogant am I!
Petals of a Dying Flower (Talps) - I just know what I like!

On the whole, I tend to prefer small levels I can dip into and play within ten minutes, to satisfy an itch. But some of the above are really exceptional.

Here are my favourites, though this list may change soon-ish:

-All of the Nifflas levels (Isn't it obvious?)
-Absolute Machination, by Diago (Wonderful atmosphere)
-Cliffhanger, by Grimwit (Not sure why I love this one so much, but I do.)
-Dark Sea 2, by SecretGlitch (Oh Juni, this is hard, but very VERY well made!)
-Do Not Pick Up The Key, by Talps (My banner should have given that away :P)
-Harvest, by farik (Solid story and progression.  All you could ask for, really.)
-Night 2, by Chezzy (I'm sure we've all been there, for one reason or another!)
-Scarlet Tears, by James Vaughan (The atmosphere for this one gets me every time)
-Station Sputzna, by farik (Even incomplete, this level is gorgeous to both the eyes and ears)
-The Extinct Bird, by Christian (The COs in this must've taken FOREVER!)
-The Hunt, by farik (Very interesting effects and settings, and decent humour as well)

-Monocromattica Grotta(B-Man) - Very good gameplay. It's fun to play even after the first time.Only level I've played just because it was fun.
-Sohe and the Rrokked(BaronCid & Old_Gil) - Very atmospheric world. The rocketship and the logbook are amazing.Only level where I really want to read.
-Night SE(Chezzy) - It's limbo time ! Good use of a concept
-Fossil(Dessgeega) - Great gameplay supported by fitting graphics.
-The Oubliette(Dessgeega) - Great gameplay again
-Torchlight(Dessgeega) - Great concept and gameplay AGAIN.Not a big fan of the beginning though.Doesn't fit in with the rest.
-Under the Crack(Dessgeega) - Best complete level for Knytt Stories for me.Simple works.Love the colours.Love that is had a good icon, good intro screen and simple start and end screens.
-Shipwrecked(egomassive) - Good use of shifts.Love the first days.Fighting static pirates is not my thing though.
-Uthoha(Elder) - Like the colours and that it reminds me a bit of Knytt
-Ascension(Farik) - Love the simple, but eyecatching colours and the difficulty does not make the game frustrating. Also a complete level.
-Camping(Farik) - Good concept.
-Deserter Life(Farik) - Short, but it offers some eyecandy.
-HomelandBETA(Farik) and Sputzna(Farik) - Although this whole epic theme that he has going is not really my style, I still get sucked into the world.Love it.
-The Hunt(Farik) - Really like the pacing in this one.And that is has some very imagintive creatures.
-Temple of the Sun(Fegon) - Again it's simple, it doesn't overuse a billion different colours.
-Knytt 8bits(Jerom) - Very good concept.Love the grayscale.Although it is a bit glitchy and I did get stuck.
-Apeture Science(Raicuparta) - Great tribute.
-Chasm(Sergio Cornaga) - Love the warm tones.I really wanted to explore every bit of this level.Very enjoyable.
-Petals of a Dying Flower(Talps) - Simple colours and good gameplay.
-Starlight(Vonicles92) - Everything fits so well in this playground level.Soothing.
-SplitMind(Jigganis) - Awesome use of the old tilesets.

I prefer easy and simple levels with satisfying ending, because it helps me relax during my schoolwork. I also like enviromental levels, but I can't play them too often - they begin to bore me.
So here is my top list:
I am not a mad scientist by Pr0xyzer - it is short level with several mistakes and very simple story (and first mistake could turn many people off playing it - it is uploaded in the archive under twisted names of author and level), but I like it.
Gaia by Anyndel and Drakkan - sooooo big
Extinct bird by Christian Schellmann - I love this original enviroment.
Harvest and Hunt by Farik - my favourite levels by this author - but I like other ones too.
Torchlight and Under the crack by Dessgeega - my favourite levels by this author - but I like other ones too.
Dark sky of wish mountain by AlmightyZen Taco - one of the first levels I've played
Deserted rustyard by Bligglenuber - these COs always make me wonder
Falling water, Jumbping in the rain and Remembering the city by Hmpf MacSlow - I love them all and want another part of the first one
The dark witch by Nachtom - Nothing special, but one of the best Czech levels (there's an English version in the archive).
Skyfalls by Pip - everything works perfectly
Marine by Jerom - beautiful steampunk tilesets and good story
Petals of the dying flower by Talps - just perfect (and about flower)
Well of white waters by Headgrinder - beautiful place. Why is it not bigger ?
Grim, Scorching the sun and Parasite trilogy by Strange darkness - brilliant horror atmosphere
Lost in storm by Razzorman, Natural bySnawnachu, Parkour by Sergio Cornaga,
Outer reaches by Pick yer poison and Mashu prapa and Reverie by Elder/Salmonelous - my favourite enviromentals.

Edit: I have to add two levels I adore and wish to be able to make something as good as they are. I've finally finished them:
Hypnagogia by Plural and I dreamed of the sky by Talps - both are just perfect.

Here's some of my favourite levels and why:

I'm so cold... by Bass - it's a simple but funny level with loads of different endings. Note: funny.
Endless Time by BloxMaster manages to conjure an epic feel. It's epic.
Night by Chezzy makes the epicness of being out alone at night come to life.
All levels by dessgeega. Artsy-farsty and epic-peppic.
Romance by Elder. It's just insane, but maybe still true, in a cynical way...
Core by Fredrik Andersson is maybe my favourite level. Everything just FITS.
Capitalism by googoogjoob is everything I don't want my life (or the world) to be. "An interactive loss of will to live" - you don't say...
Splinter by Iggyzor. Another fun meta-level.
Marine by Jerom. A huge and sometimes confusing level to get lost in for hours. Last time I played it one of the shifts didn't work out though... I'll try to find a new version then!  :D
splitMind by Jigganis. Interesting philosophical monologuing.
Teenhmifnoeafgil & Too Much Soda by KG. So unnecessarily over-thought-through. So undeniably awesome. (And lovingly weird)
The Room Ov Death by Klämrisk
A Psychedelic Adventure by Medic-Ted. A huge and sometimes confusing level to get lost in for hours. Last time I played it one of the shifts didn't work out though... I'll try to find a new version then!  :D
Jolio episode 1 & 2 by Noi. On the subject of fun, stroy-driven, really worked-through, random, high quality levels...
Rememberance by Si. Yes. Just yes.

I'm pretty sure someone fixed that problem and posted the updated version on the current forum somewhere... I'll have a look around, see if I can find it for you.

Edit: Ah, it was GrayFace (http://nifflas.lpchip.nl/index.php?topic=1817.msg51425#msg51425), enjoy!

Too Much Soda by KG

Every time I play that game, I pretend that I live in one of those huge houses in the beginning. Imagine all the stuff one could fit in something that big, man. Just thinking about those houses is really great, you know? Forget the story, characters, and the love KG put into this game, it's all about those houses, haha. Oh man, I think I'm going to go play that again and relive my dreams of owning a giant house haha.

Nominated for best reason for a favorite level.

I love Too Much Soda. It's the funniest level I've played.

"Infestation" without a doubt!  And all of Nifflas's originals of course.

I am reviving this thread mainly to post an updated version of my favorites list, and also to get people to list off their favorites again!  For fairness, I'll go with one level per designer.

Here's mine:

If I were to pick my top 5, they would be as such:

...

Thanks for the list! I'm always looking for new levels and there's several on there I hadn't heard of.

Also, Cosmic Meltdown was really that big??? I guess I REALLY need to replay it and get all the keys! (I got the eye though) It didn't feel bigger than, say, Eurydice or Dark Sea 2 but I guess there's still a lot I missed.

The more I learn, the more impressed I am with it as a level. So many layers!

Don't Eat the mushroom
Awesome psychedelic trip, and the endings are pretty funny. The only downside is it's only about 10 minuts long   :sigh:
