Title: NSF FiNCK Theme
Post by: AClockworkLemon on June 17, 2010, 12:45:25
I've been working on a theme for NSF based on FiNCK!

I need feedback on everything. if you think something needs changing, tell me!

Requirements:
WaDF Theme active
Firefox with Stylish Addon (or any other browser that supports CSS injecting(or whatever you call it))

How to use
Make sure theme is set to WaDF
Right-click on your Stylish notifier and create a blank theme.
In the 'title' box, put 'FiNCK'
in the codebox, put the code in the spoiler below

CODE
ARGH! ITS TOO LONG!
I have updated the code, adding new buttons in. check attached for the code

Edit: slight edit to code to change colour inconsistencies

I haz joined!

Anyway, here's some comments:

The box that shows the, uh, part of the forum's name (Games in Development, General etc.) has some blank space above the, well, name.

You probably cannot change this, but the WaDF buttons (or at least their color) look out of place.

The header is stretched a bit to the right. (or maybe it isn't stretched at all, but positioned in the wrong place, if it was just moved a bit to the left, it would work)

That's it. Other than that, I've got no gripes: this theme's pretty cool.

Please do note, that Firefox can show this page differently than any other browser. Testing this only in Firefox can cause the page to appear wrong in any other browser.

Additionally, for me to add the theme, I'll need it to be ready for import in SMF. I'm not going to spend much time in getting it in the system.

That might require you to install SMF somewhere, make the modifications and then give me a zipfile with all the theme files in there.

Well, you can't use stylish in any other browser, so testing it in other browsers will just be time consuming and (almost) pointless.
It is possible to turn stylish stuff into userscripts, but I have no idea how that's done.

That's actually normally there, it's just not so noticeable with the catbg image there. i'll see if i can fix that (not too difficult, i think)

I can, i just havn't yet. call me lazy, but i wanted to get the main look going before i did any of the fine(er) details

Not meaning to sound superior or anything, but that's because your monitor is too small.

Indeed, your monitor is too small :/

In response to Razzorman, yes, this is designed for FF, but LP is suggesting it become a full-fledged theme, in which case it needs to work on all browsers.

LP, could you PM me the current WADf theme, seeing as the FiNCK theme is based heavily upon it's layout

Edit: how am i supposed to install SMF? i don't have a webserver, and when i run the installer .php, firefox opens it in dreamweaver :/ changing the extension to .html gives me 'This installer requires PHP, but i've installed PHP5
Edit: i've set up a forum on smffor free, but am having trouble adding a custom theme help?
Edit: NVM, i have installed a forum on 000webhost. all good. LP, could you send that zip through please?

Having installed a forum on the hostsite, i am going to use that forum as a theme discussion forum as well. Feel free to register :D the address is

Kewl, no problems. as soon as i get my hands on the WaDF theme, i'll edit that and test it out on my test forum, using every browser i can muster. And it's FiCNK, so you cant say it aint niff's work :P

sorry for double post

I've set up my theme on my test forum, and i need people to test it! (it's set as default, so you dont need to register). If you think something dosn't work, notify me of it :D

For the moment, i've left the buttons the same as the WaDF theme. If you think they need changing, do say ( i might need a bit of help making new ones, i'm not exactly the best graphic artist :/ )

the forum is
http://colockworkthemes.comuf.com/index.php (http://colockworkthemes.comuf.com/index.php)

Edit:
I have tested the theme on my computer using:
FireFox 3.6.3
Google Chrome 5.0.375.70
Opera 10.53

all seems fine. please give your own results as well!

I'd say the buttons (whichever exactly you may mean now) can stay. they sort of bring the spirit of most other nifflas games to the original 2 themes at least.
if of course you want it to be finck exclusive, I'd be happy to make them, as long as you give me some ideas about what images to use, if you like. :)

Lol. I've had a quick look in the code and cant find it. i'll have a better look later, for now im on music camp :/

I think the original images are fine, and work really well, i'm just unsure how well the button iteslf matches (grey on brown ain't the bst combo, as far as i can see). If you could make some buttons that'd be awsmoe C)P

Pink on dark blue please!

erm..... something that works with the brown... brown maybe?  C)p

On a side note:
I've just noticed an issue with the standard WaDF theme in Opera (which i've just started using  C)p ). I have the latest release, and it would seem to be mixing the cabg and catbg2 images. screenshot attached. ( in know it's not entirely on-topic, but i figure it fits in enough)

Edit: helps if you actually attach te file, duffer XD

I think the girly pink is not the best choice for this theme. :^^:

what about the red? I'll have to check how that works with the other icons.

The pink-blue was not really quite that fitting, so yeah, sorry. :P

Okidoki, version Beta 1 is attached. i think i've covered everything, except maybe for the board colours. I will be shortly updating the version on my test
forum as well.
Edit: updated (http://colockworkthemes.comuf.com/) & added screenie

I noticed the Logout button wraps down to the second line iff you have unread messages. (Stylish version, code at the first post)

I have noticed that myself, and fixed it in the SMF version. (i told them not to center). The reason why that happens is i set a fixed width for the object containing the buttons, so i could center it.

Ok, i know it's been a while, but i finally finished it :D
I'm about to update the code in the first post for stylish. i've attached uploaded the SMF version. The only major change is the stylish edition, i have edited all the buttons (save the admin ones) to the red variant. I've done a general clean-up of my bits and pieces in the SMF version (nothing drastic, and no change to the existing stuff, really)

FiNCK.zip (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4410179/FiNCK.zip) (direct DL)

I'm also about to PM the stuff to LP

I've replied your PM. I tried importing the theme in a test SMF environment, and it didn't work. Once you send me a version that works, I'll judge it and probably add it to the forum.
